Good band. Their music does have some Christian undertones to it, especially on Vheissu.

I like Christian music, but don't necessarily like Christian radio. WAY-FM is a big station, but they tend to play the same stuff over and over. I deployed to Afghanistan in March of 2008 and when I went home in October of 2008 the same songs were on the radio, just a few new ones that I hadn't heard of.

 

I love harder stuff, stuff like Pillar, Project 86, Red, August Burns Red. I like some Christian Hip-Hop like John Reuben (he's more original than most secular hip-hoppers). I'm also big on a band named Seventh Day Slumber, they've got some good stuff out there as well. Toby Mac is really good as well.

Have you heard Dustin Kensrue's solo cd? It is only 7 songs I believe, and kind of country, but I love it. Thrice is a band I really enjoy, and their live show is outstanding if you ever get a chance to see them.

 

Although I do like many different types of music, I was suprised how much I enjoyed "Please Come Home." I would actually challenge Jim Schue to give the cd a try. I'm not sure if he would like Thrice, but I think a lot of people could get into his solo work.

DC Talk and Toby Mac would not be creating the same Christian music over and over again.

 

It seems your last sentence than would say that ALL music is lacking creativity. Or is it easy to be creative in blues but not in Christian music because it was done in blues?

 

Not necessarily. But most of it is just variations upon a theme. I don't even get the sense of variation from Christian rock, though.

Kensrue's an amazing songwriter and Thrice really has some good stuff, like cch5432 said, Vheissu is loaded with undertones. Kensrue also recently released a Christmas CD that's not your typical Christmas CD.....and it's really good as well.

I'm partial to any uplifting songs, in just about any genre. It takes a while to overcome my bias against rap to listen to the message, but there are some rap songs that are positive, motivational songs.

 

I guess I'm confused by the difference between "religious" music and "Christian" music.

 

To me, there are two types of Christian/Religious music that send chills down my spine. The first is the traditional Catholic music I grew up singing and hearing at Masses, especially high Masses. There's simply nothing like hearing an organ and trumpets at Christmas and Easter to pretty much bring me to my knees. The second is Black Gospel music. The delivery, passion and simple joy in the delivery is spine-tingling. It's a movement, not just music. I've never been to a predominantly black church and NOT heard a lackluster performance, or an off-tune voice.
