Franklin County dominated early but let Trinity back in the game in the second half as they gave up too many three pointers and had too many turnovers. The game went into overtime and was still tied afterward, but they couldn't go into a second one because of time issues and other scrimmages.

Franklin Co played well in 1st half but I thought that besides Vance Hall they really struggled to handle the ball. I would think that they would have trouble with the pressure that Scott Co, Bryan Station and others in the 11th will bring.

 

Hall played well taking the ball to ther hole all night long and probably made 20free throws! They also had a two big men that were solid.

 

Trinity allowed them a lot of open three's early but settled down and clearly controlled the game in the second half and OT.

 

If not for for some suspect officiating and a couple of big threes late in OT, Trinity wins this one!

Franklin County jumped out and maintained a double digit lead most of the first half. Starters sat most of second quarter or Trinity never gets back in this one. Franklin County dominated the boards, but struggled in the third quarter to get their rythym back and made too many turnovers which Trinity ,who shot lights out from three tonight, converted to get back into the game.

Get the Football players out and FC should be pretty good. Deron Hicks will be one of the best guards in the 11th this season, and the Big "Oak" helps solidify the post play.

 

Looked like Sewell for Trinity really struggled in this one. I think it was due to the defender guarding him.

At full strength this will not be a problem. They have already proved they can handle this type of pressure in past games. Hicks is as quick as any guard in the 11th. Hall is much improved. He took over the game with 34 points. He is extremmely underrated!!!!

Can anyone say how Chris Harrison (Jr.) did for Trinity against Franklin Co.? I saw him play against Paducah Tillman at PRP a couple of weeks ago. He starts at point guard for Trinity and he's a freshman...

Trinity's point guard played well. Handled the ball well and did not turn it over as I recall. The challenge Trinity had at the point was guarding Vance Hall who at 6'3" took over the game in the second half. He was unstoppable going to the hoop.

FC hits 5-5 threes early to get about a 12 point lead in the first 3-4 minutes and goes to half with a 12-14 point lead, thanks to at least 20 free throws in the 1st half, so no momentum changes in second quarter and unless FC was going to continue to shoot 100% from three, I don't think a blowout was going to occur.

 

Trinity turns up pressure in 2nd half, and despite being called for a foul everytime they breathed, still was able to get the lead with better rebounding.

 

I would not count this to be an "easy win" for FC if they play again. Get some fair officials and make FC score from the field and not shoot at least 40free throws and we have a much different outcome. The two off the ball illegal screen fouls called on Trinity in the last three minutes, when they finally have the lead and are trying to run clock, illustrates my officiating point rather clearly!

 

Just a scrimmage but give credit to both teams as any FC supporter who was there and paying attention should realize they were lucky to escape with the tie! If the two other players are as good as advertised, FC will have a top 20 team this year, I would think!

I don't think that illustrates bad officiatiing clearly. If they had been good officials they would have called the first 50 times Trinity set an illegal screen. They did it all night and it only got called a few times.

 

The officiating didn't help or hurt one team more than the other. It wasn't tremendous either way. Good game and against two good teams.

I would agree with a couple of things. As it turned out Franklin County was lucky to get away with a tie. Secondly, I think Trinity is a tough out. However, Franklin County generally has no problem with pressure defense, in fact they usually do very well against it. Being their first scrimmage against real competition, they got out of their offense in the third quarter, and hats off to Trinity who got after it on defense. As far as the officiating, this was not a home game for Franklin County, and they usually don't get partial refereeing in Anderson County, and Franklin County had just as many complaints at key moments...eg. over and back when the Franklin County player established both feet in the front court, and a tip in over Trinity player when there was no contact whatsover late in the game. Granted, I would feel the same way if I were on Trinity's bench if the other team shot that many free throws, but it doesn't mean the refs. were partial.

Really 6'3"? He didn't look over 6'0" when I saw him play this summer on the Shining Stars B team. So he is only an inch shorter than Scott's Chad Jackson? He must have grown a lot since summer.
