Interesting "travel" experiences

Here's a good one.

Two years ago several of my buddies and I were having a few at my place. A lot of the people that were out here were going skiing the next morning. Me and my friend Dustin were not. One beer turned into two, two into three and three into 20. By the end of the night, my buddy Dustin and I had decided that the next morning, we too were going skiing.

Everyone had left my house at this point so we went inside, got on the computer and made reservations at the cheapest place around Snow Shoe we could find. We printed off some directions and went to sleep. We couldn't have slept for more than 3 or 4 hours because we woke up at 7 AM to make the 4 hour journey to Snow Shoe.

As we got closer to Snow Shoe we started looking for anything that resembled the name of the hotel we were staying at. Our directions kept taking us closer and closer to the end destination with no hotels in sight. At this point, we're on a residential street. We follow the directions to a T and they take us to a house. I decided to get out and ask the owners of the home where the hotel we were staying at was.

I walked to the door and knocked and was answered by a very old man. I asked him where the place was and he said "you're here". Yup, that's right, sometime in the wee hours of the morning we had managed to make reservations at a bed and breakfast.

So here we are, me and Dustin staying in a bedroom of some guys house. Me, Dustin and several gay couples to be exact. Not that I have a problem with that, I must admit though, I felt a little uncomfortable

:lol::lol:That just made me laugh out loud!

I also got arrested in Jordan once.

I used to work for a large accounting firm and my job required very frequent travel. I flew to Houston quite often because we had several clients located there. For whatever reason, my flights were always into the Hobby Airport and out of the Hobby Airport, never the International Airport, ALWAYS Hobby.........................................................except one time. That trip we flew into Hobby as always and at the end of the week the got a cab back to Hobby. We arrive very early and decide to have a few beers, ok more than a few actually. We didn't have any bags to check so we just lounged around and as departure time neared we decided to check the departure board to get the gate info and to see if the flight was departing on time.

Keep in mind that in those days (late 80's) often you received your return boarding pass the same time you got your initial pass. Oddly enough, we couldn't find the flight # anywhere on the board. How strange I thought to myself. I checked the ticket info again to make sure I had the correct flight # and searched the board again. Still nothing... I then began reading the info printed on the ticket info in a detailed manner and discovered that PERHAPS I should have paid a bit more attention to what it was telling me PRIOR to departing the hotel for the airport. It was at this moment that I learned we were at the wrong airport. For the first time, we were supposed to fly out of the International Airport for the return trip instead of Hobby. For those of you familiar with Houston, these airports are not exactly close to one another. The airport did shuttle us to the other airport but we were MUCH too late to catch our flight back to Nashville.

Once at the International Airport, we explained our dilemna to a service rep (she got a bit of a chuckle), and were booked on what I am certain is the most indirect flight ever scheduled in the history of mankind. First we had to go to Memphis, then on to Atlanta, then to Charlotte, up to Cinci and then to Nashville. Needless to say, we were drinking the entire way. This many years later, I can't even remember how long that ordeal lasted, maybe 8 or 10 hours, maybe a day or so, who knows. I DO remember arriving in Nashville drunk and finding a phone (didn't have a cell then). I called my wife and when she answered all I remember saying is "I'm at the airport and I'm drunk. Come get me". And that's all I got to say about that.:D

I think we might have a winner here!

This may be not as entertaining or scary as some, but my wife and my friends wife still give us grief over this one. We were having a business meeting in Clifton, TN, a small burg about 2 hrs. south of Nashville. Living in the Maysville, KY area we both have made the trip by car and depending on traffic, breaks, etc. it's an 8 to 9 hr. drive. Since we get paid mileage and per diem, we decide to look into flying to Nashville and renting a car to drive only 2 hrs. each way. Well, Louisville had no Southwest at all to Nashville, Lex. and Cincy on Delta was too expensive, so we book a flight out of Columbus, OH. We drive to Columbus, 2 1/2 hrs. park our car, go through security, etc. and board and fly to Midway-Chicago for a 3 hr. layover, before flying to Nashville, and with the time figured for waiting in line, checking in and such we could have rented a car and been in TN long before the airplane ever landed in Nashville. The direct flight back was worth it, but I guess getting their is half the fun as they say.

^ I always wondered about this. There has been more than one occasion where I tried to book a flight from Cincinnati tp Point X. Many times, it was less expensive to fly from Lexington to Cincinnati to Point X.

I'll never understand the economics of air travel.

I have several, but they are more like Tucker Max stories. Probably not going to share as many of the people are now married.:sssh:
