November 9, 200817 yr The Obama gaffe was reported, and everyone knows it was simply a mistake. The people talking badly about Palin are not democrats, they ar the McCain people, some were her handlers. The big report is not really whether or not Palin knew these things, but the backbiting that is taking place. How do you know who is speaking badly about Palin. They are unnamed.
November 9, 200817 yr The same could be said for Obama. Based on his ridiculous performance on the campaign trail, it can also be said of Vice President-elect Joe Gaffe. Seems the majority of Americans disagree with you.
November 9, 200817 yr Seems the majority of Americans disagree with you.:lol:There is no disputing that fact. However, this entire thread is based on anonymous sources who have been publicly contradicted by the people who prepared Sarah Palin for her debate. What does that say about the media and Palin's critics?
November 9, 200817 yr That's what good tabloid reporters do, isn't it?? Fire--Ready--Aim?? But then, CNN is still deciding to do "a little digging" on the Wright & Ayres situations, before they ever think about broadcasting--Classic!! I see a lot of righteous indignation about the "tabloid reporting" on Sarah Palin, but it was Fox News that reported the statements from McCain campaign staff that Palin a) didn't know the nations participating in the NAFTA treaty and b) didn't know that 'Africa' is a continent and not a country. Geez, are you people so anxious to defend this woman as a victim of the media that you are willing to overlook her stunning ignorance of basic geopolitical facts? These are things that moderately-bright high school students know. She had no business being on the ticket for a major national office. Maybe your outrage should be directed at John McCain, who we now know picked this person with practically no vetting. Fox News: Palin didn't know Africa was a continent
November 9, 200817 yr She should've realized she wasn't ready and declined the nomination. Exactly. Instead, she expresses outrage that the American public have learned how unqualified she is.

Fox News: Palin didn't know Africa was a continent The allegations have been effectively refuted by sources willing to be quoted by name and who were in the room with Palin preparing her for the debate with Biden. Yet you persist in repeating the anonymous leaks and then claim them to support your opinion that she was too ignorant to be on the ticket. Amazing.
November 9, 200817 yr You mean welcome to being a Republican on the national stage. Where were the national media types asking Obama how many states make up the USA? They didn't ask because they assume that Obama knows basic social studies and they attributed (and should have attributed) it as a momentary slip and not an indication that the thinks there are 57 or 58 states. However, the media is all-to-willing to protray Palin as not knowing basic social studies even though they only have second hand information (unlike the video of Obama's gaffe) and couldn't even verify the truth of the allegation. They reported it because they wanted to report it. There's a difference between making a slip of the tongue during an extemporaneous remark and not being able to answer direct, straightforward questions about your qualifications (like what newspapers you read, or speaking intelligently about the proposed financial rescue package, or discussing the merits of the September 2002 Bush Doctrine.) Obama and McCain had their share of the former. Obama said he had visited "57 states", McCain stated that al Qaeda were crossing into Iran for training. Most people took these mis-statements for what they were--manifestations of long hours on the campaign trail, and not indications of genuine ignorance.

If Fox News bothered to report the information provided it by campaign insiders, I will consider them reliable sources. Has Fox issued a retraction?
November 10, 200817 yr What sources? Link? If Fox News bothered to report the information provided it by campaign insiders, I will consider them reliable sources. Has Fox issued a retraction? I tend to agree that these accusations are relatively worthless, albeit humorous, in anonymity, but Palin herself said they were "taken out of context" and that those saying it were "jerks" (as opposed to liars, I presume). I'm not aware of a context where not knowing the countries in NAFTA or the country/continent differentiation in Africa would be appropriate. Being that there are a significant number of Americans who don't know those facts and that Palin herself doesn't know which newspapers she reads (or is supposed to be reading), feels living in Alaska is valid foreign policy experience, and thinks the bailout package has something to do with jobs created from trade, these new revelations aren't shocking.
November 10, 200817 yr What sources? Link? If Fox News bothered to report the information provided it by campaign insiders, I will consider them reliable sources. Has Fox issued a retraction? I have noticed how much stock you place in most Fox News report - it is curious that you picked this gossip piece to champion. Here are a few articles in which people who worked closely with Palin are quoted by name on the record. Palin has also denied the allegations emphatically on the record. I even included an article from Huffington Post for your reading pleasure. There have been many other reports in the media in which Steve Schmidt and other prominent members of the McCain and Palin campaign staffs have gone on the record to refute the anonymous smears. However, I expect liberals will continue to focus on the unsourced allegations. There is nothing scarier than an attractive, articulate conservative politican capable of drawing tens of thousands of people to a political rally, huh? Palin allies: She's no diva McCain Campaign Autopsy Duprey, Schmidt deny Newsweek report Rove "Wrong" About Palin, Steve Schmidt Says

Palin allies: She's no diva I didn't see any specific refutation of the story that Palin didn't know the NAFTA nations or that Africa is a continent in this article. McCain Campaign Autopsy This was a dead link. Duprey, Schmidt deny Newsweek report This was a dead link, too. Rove "Wrong" About Palin, Steve Schmidt Says This is dated September 3, 2008. Were McCain staffers leaking information about Palin's knowledge only 4 days after she was named? There is nothing scarier than an attractive, articulate conservative politican capable of drawing tens of thousands of people to a political rally, huh? I'll go one further than that: There really is nothing scarier than a charismatic, but intellectually-vacuous conservative politician capable of drawing tens of thousands of people to a political rally. Thank goodness this one's been exposed. Maybe someday it will prevent a repeat of the last 8 years.
November 10, 200817 yr McCain Campaign Autopsy There, that link is fixed. Duprey, Schmidt deny Newsweek Report. That one is fixed now too.
November 10, 200817 yr She should've realized she wasn't ready and declined the nomination. :thumb: As soon as I started reading this thread, that was the first thing to enter my mind.

Maybe someday it will prevent a repeat of the last 8 years. The willingness of Obama supporters to dismiss well documented and troubling instances of corrumption on Obama's part while eagerly spreading gossip about Palin has been facinating. We shall see how well Obama's socialist initiatives work in an economy in recession. If raising taxes, increasing spending, driving business costs up by pandering to the unions by eliminating secret ballot requirements, and bankrupting major US industries improves the economy, then I may give socialism a second look  However, until then I will remain convinced that Sarah Palin has a much better understanding and appreciation of what has made America great than Obama or Biden. Socialism has been tried before - repeatedly - and it has failed - repeatedly. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure that out.
