November 5, 200817 yr They are probably thinking that showing California's electoral votes in the Obama column may suppress Republican turnout in other states. A somewhat similar thing happened in 2000 when some networks (CNN, NBC, etc) called Florida for Gore while the polls were STILL open in the panhandle. This is because these networks (a subsidiary of the DNC) knew that the panhandle of FL is primarily a Republican stronghold.
