Add Elliott County vs. South Charleston, WVA on Saturday December 20th at 7:45PM in the KY BANK CLASSIC at Bourbon County. Not getting much attention because folks don't know much about South Charleston. South Charleston will be ranked #1 in some polls in West Virginia preps pre-season voting. Granted Elliott doesn't play the schedule that Holmes, GRC, Scott County, and Manual play. This game along with the Myrtle Beach Tournament and possibly some games against the likes of Shelby Valley, Bardstown, and Hazard in the All A in Richmond will be Elliott's toughest games and the one stick to measure them. They will also (possibly) have one or two tough games with East Carter in the 16th. Most don't know much about East outside the 16th and won't count that as tough tests.

I think pretty much all of the top teams play brutal schedules. (SC, Holmes, J'town, Manual, GRC, North Hardin)

The one against Scott Co. may be the most interesting and I'm predicting that game to be very, very physical. Hopefully the refs take control of that game quick or it could be a brawl. There could very well be a fight between fans too, luckily they will sit on different sides.

Donovan was coming off an injury last year so played sparingly, and had 17pts. Holmes will not be able to key on him because Meyer, Hall, Conner, Hicks and Watkins can all put the ball in the basket.

Holmes is, of course, athletically gifted, but I was most impressed by how well and unselfishly they moved the ball around. Franklin County was notorious for starting out slowly in games last year including the Holmes game. I believe Franklin County will give Holmes a game this year. For now though, Holmes is deserving of a top one or two ranking.

While it may not qualify as a "top game" since Mason Co is rebuilding/reloading this year. I'm rather interested to the see the atmosphere in Elliott Co when the Royals pay a visit on February 10th.

You know, FC is actually a game that I feel could go either way. On paper Holmes should win but FC is a scrappy bunch and will be one of Holmes toughest opponents on the year IMO.

That will be interesting, but probably most interesting in this match up is how the Holmes guys match up with underrated, and much improved Vance Hall. He may be as tough a competitor as there is in the state. Also very fundamentally sound.

Hall is the point guard from last year correct? Around 6'1 or 6'2?

Yes, probably closer to 6'3" now. He can finsh at the rim as well as anyone around, with either hand. I won't be surprised to see him dunk in traffic this season.

 

The guys from Scott County had trouble with him this summer.
