Why don't St.X and Trinity dominate in baseball like they do in football

Hey THS winning three consecutive baseball titles to me is a heck of a feat in the baseball world. You can consider that dominance because it's a whole lot harder to do than say basketball or football. I'm not saying Cal, who I heard had a heck of a season last year, could beat X or T in football. I know X and T have history in football. I was just wondering why it isn't the same in baseball, that's all. Not trying to get anybody upset just asking a question.

I honestly think it comes down to the schematics of the two sports. In baseball you can field a team of 12-13 good players to be competitive. In football however your need 30-40 good players to remain competitive.

The smaller rosters, and nature of baseball makes it easier for smaller schools to be competitive in baseball. You have the same team playing offense as defense. You don't rely on 11 different players playing both sides of the ball, special teams, and your backups in football, where you just have a few starting pitchers, position players and your backups for baseball.

Very similar to why some small schools can be competitive at D1 college basketball, but not football.

Not so much I think on the D1 level for a majority of school only because there you deal with Presitge coaches etc. etc.

However just from a numbers standpoint, an average High School Varsity Roster is what, 16-20 kids?

Thats not even a full offense and defense at a good football school.

The answer is much easier than a lot of you think.

St. X and Trinity don't dominate in baseball because there is only 1 class! This means that there is only 1 champion.

So by that logic, if football were only 1 class X and T would have fewer football titles?

Baseball & football are two different beasts.

In football, having a huge enrollment is a bigtime advantage. The enrollment is also an advantage in baseball, but not nearly as much so as on the gridiron.

I know that St. X & Trinity have had some very successful football coaches that were there for a long time. How about the football program?

Football, imo, comes down to Xs and Os. You get good athletes and teach them how to play football.

Baseball is more a skilled game. To me, you either have what it takes to play baseball or not. I'm not saying you can't teach someone the game but once again imo it is harder to teach someone to hit a curveball or changeup than it is to teach them how to run a route.

Carroll Co beat Trinity last year, its just a matter of who is hot and who is on the mound ect.

A guy few spots above me pretty much summed it up with his information about the feeding system

So Park, we are knew in the area and I have a son who will be in high school next year. I want a good baseball program for him. Both Trinity and X came up as far as schools to look at but I've done a little homework and found out they are stronger in football than baseball. Can you help me out here?

Harrison County has a good Baseball Program and their Baseball Program is stronger than their Football Program. Move on over.

I assume you meant to ask about the baseball coaches, right? Not much turnover in either program....solid coaching at both...it's not the coaching that keeps T and X from winning state titles in baseball, it's the competition.

In my opinion, baseball is harder to dominate than other sports. And that's because it is difficult to put the same lineup on the field everyday. Trinity and St. X would probably not dominate in football either if they could only start their #1 QB every 4th or 5th game.

This is the case even in college and professional ranks. NFL and college football teams that win championships will often win 80% or more of their games. The college and MLB World Series champs will have a winning pct. much lower than that.

Also, teams hold back their best pitchers to pitch against the better teams. Therefore, because of the traditionally strong programs at these schools, they are often going to face the best that opponents have to offer.

But still gloveman the team with history is always around the title in every sport. Not saying once in a while an underdog doesn't win it but usaully that is how it goes. To back the comment look at the lines before each sport starts. Usually the ones with tradition are 5-1 or lower, the long shots are higher. That tells you something regardless of who and what.

Interesting point about the one class system being the reason ST. X and Trinity have not fared as well.

I wonder how many times in the last twenty years, Trinity and St. X lost to a team in the tourney that would not be in their class?? Or for that matter, how many times Trinity and St. X would have lost in football had they had to come across the best football teams from their semi-state area?
