Class 5A Rankings

Featured Replies

Thought this would be an interesting thread with a wide variety of opinions? With #2 John Hardin, #4 Owensboro, and #9 Ashland all losing to teams in or on the verge of the Top 10, how will this weeks rankings shake out?

True. I had forgot about Hopkinsville. They were in at #10 in last weeks BGP Top 10.

In overtime and if Mercer gets a 1st down instead of a TD they take a knee and run out the clock and the game is over.Mercer led the whole game until the last few seconds. Mercer was playing their 1st game with their sophomre qb after they had lost their starting qb for the last 2 years with a torn ACL the week before.

I think Johnson Central is clear top 5, IMO...

My own suspicion is that precious little separates #3-10... we could probably scramble and re-scramble them from week to week... But I think Highlands and BG are a step ahead of the rest.

I am beginning to have concerns about JH's strength of schedule. Could they be a paper tiger? They were once thought to have a cake walk to the state semi-finals, but a strong case can be made that both Doss and Oldham are better.

You bring up an interesting question, Blockbuster...the only really top-caliber team JH has beaten to date was Woodford County (42-14 in week 1)...(Woodford has been competitive with the better teams, beating Bryan Station and losing to Johnson Central and Ashland...) Other than that, it hasn't been an overly strong schedule, just so-so (6A Meade County is 4-4)

And in reading the paper today, it appeared Doss won this one pretty handily, at one time leading 27-7.

But - even though JH may have been overrated a bit, I wouldn't count out Mark Brown's crew too quickly. They have great fans, a good coach, and good talent. They'll be a real tough out in the post-season.

The Bulldogs finish with 6A Nelson County (4-4) and 6A Central Hardin (3-5)
