I agree with you - I do not see her being in the top 10 players in the region. She is a nice player but not top ten and I also do not see LeCompte being the # 3 player either.

I think that's about right for Lecompte. Conley and Flutz are more experienced but she is pretty athletic and a good defender. The region is just down in talent this year. None below are better and I can't think of anyone left out.

When you/cats' pause talk about top ten players at this point it is not taking into consideration the incoming freshman class . Since the talent is not as deep this year, I think that there may be one or two that could be in the top ten at the seasons end when the region coaches vote.

Flutz is a really good player that I have seen play a few times. Good luck to all mentioned and hope they all stay free from injury.

If I had to rate the known players (not looking at incoming freshmen, who may be the keys to this year's 8th Region)...

 

I like Tolliver, Fultz, and Beaudrie as my top three players. I was really impressed with Lacompte last year; I thought she had a breakout season. But the true test of Lacompte this year will be how well she does with more of the load on her shoulders...Shelby was so incredibly talented last year, and with Gray at PG, Lacompte could be a great role player without having to take the leadership role. Lacompte really stepped up her game last year...now Shelby needs her to take it up one more step, I think...

 

I think Tolliver, Fultz, and Beaudrie already have shown those qualities, in addition to their considerable physical talents... All three have the abilities to take over games...

I look for Jensen Wainscott from Owen to be one of the top players with experience and an ability to attack the rim

I am not sure that I would rank Beaudrie # 3 - she can get to the rim but her outside shot is pretty inconsistent- and the one thing that really hurts her IMO is her mental game. She appears moody and sometimes pouts quite a bit during the game. As for LeCompte, I would agree with your assessment. She has a beautiful jumpt shot and was pretty efffective out there especially with most of the defenses keying on Gray, it really allowed her to be a threat from the outside. Not sure how well she will do with everyone keying on her and I am not sure how comfortable she is with driving it to the basket.

 

It makes such a huge difference to be the key player that the other team is trying to stop. I think the same thing will happen to McGuffin at South Oldham- she now will be the key player to concentrate on from a defensive perspective for them. Defenses always keyed on Jones and Gray, which allowed the other players some freedom, I think this year it will be interesting to see how all the players deal with their different roles and how effective they will be.

Beaudrie is the point guard. This will be her third year at point. I've seen tremendous improvement from this kid...two years ago, she showed a lot of promise, had some big games - and disappeared in others. Sophomore with a lot of potential, but inexperience showed at times. Didn't really have an outside game; all drive and score/dish.

 

Last year, as a junior, Beaudrie was the leading scorer for the Lady Colonels. Melton and Huckvale got the PR, but Beaudrie was the catalyst that made everything happen IMO. Developed an outside shot, and became more controlled on drives to the basket.

 

Crazy8s felt she was a bit moody last year, but I don't really think that was the case. Oldham just didn't have good team chemistry. I think they had enough talent last year to win more games and contend for the region, but sometimes the parts just don't jell - and this was the case last year for Oldham.

 

Like so many teams in the 8th this year, leadership from the team's top player - for Oldham, that appears to be Beaudrie - will make a big difference. Everyone seems to be missing key pieces to the puzzle (at least, as we start the season). Those leaders will determine team chemistry, attitude, and perhaps eventual success...

 

I'd love to hear more from the Grant County and Spencer County camps...haven't heard much from the Dry Ridge and Taylorsville folks...anybody out there?
