Will Corbin Be Forced to Move Up A Class or Two?

Featured Replies

They redistrict every 2 years and they use a 2 year average of the male enrollments to decide football playing class alignment. It is a process that takes time because they allow schools to petition to change their playing class and they have to vote on those petitions. It doesn't happen overnight and it isn't black and white.

The most current redistricting is for the 2009/10 football seasons and was finalized in the past 6 months. It looks like they used the 04/05 and 05/06 enrollment figures for this redistricting.

It seems reasonable to me that more current enrollment figures were available. I'm assuming at the start of the process the 07/08 enrollment figures weren't available. What I'm not sure about is why not use the 05/06 school year and 06/07 school year for your two year average? Looking at the chart I made above, I think it is clear they didn't use those figures.

If I am wrong on my assumptions, or if more current enrollment figures were not available at the time the redistricting was done, I hope someone will set the record straight and point out my mistake. :thumb:

From what I'm told, you nailed it. The KHSAA used the numbers that were available at the time. For scheduling purposes and at the request of the coaches, the KHSAA tries to make the alignment as far in advance as is reasobably possible.

As to the comments by others about moving up, no larger schools should ever complain about a smaller school moving up into their class. The very reason for classes in football is based on the undeniable fact that in football, the size of the school is a huge factor in the quality of team. Any large school that can't beat a smaller school moving up into its class shouldn't spend time whining about the smaller school; rather should be spending time looking in the mirror and determining why, with their size advantage, they can't beat a smaller school.

The ONLY reason that the KHSAA permits a school to move up is when the school is geographically isolated and by moving the school up, it will result in the school having to travel considerably less. Which makes simple sense from a transportation cost; safety to players, coaches and fans; and convenience stand point.

I think this should apply to all other sports as well.

Perhaps but because of the physical nature of football and the large number of players utilized in the sport, it is more applicable to football than the other sports.
