No matter when one starts and the others begin basketball coaches should be respectful of football finishing up....this doesnt happen and basketball coaches make the athletes chose sports, coaches say they dont...but it happens on a daily basis.

Basketball coaches do not get hired back each year based upon how many wins the football team has each season. Basketball coaches pay their mortgages and bills based upon how many games they win. Therefore, they are going to look out for their family most of the time. Except for Billie G., he is single with no kids and makes $3.5 million a year (he's set)!

Small schools are affected greatly I believe. Dayton, Ludlow and teams of that nature have multi sport athletes that don't get much time between seasons.

The real question is why do teams need to play 30+ basketball games?

Why do football teams need to play 15?

Basketball plays for one title, football for 6.

By that logic football should play 5 games..............

AAA and below it has a HUGE impact.

My best example is Belfry.

Dustin May was a 3 sport star at BHS but he missed basically 1 full year of practice in basketball because Belfry made it to the state championship game 2 years he was there and to the Regional Finals and State Semi-finals the other.

Belfry is handicapped EVERY year by 2 months because of success of football. Right now there are 3-Frosh, 4 Soph. and 1 Jr. out plus a 3 middle school kids that do not play football.

NO other coaches have to deal with that. Do not even use baseball either.

Region tourneys are over 8-10 days after baseball season starts.

Solution is simple.

End the bye week in football, as well as the 1st round of playoffs and move the start of the season/games to Aug. 23rd or around there.

I think we do start basketball WAY too early. Ohio starts practice exactly one month later and have minimal problems. (At least they did a couple of years ago, I think it's still November 15th.)

In Ohio teams can start practice on the first Monday in November. There has been talk of setting a Nov. 1 start date, but I don't know where that stands.

Sticky is right though, Ohio does put many more restrictions on basketball than Kentucky. But, I do think their product suffers as a result.

Ohio also has a cap of 20 regular season games for every team.

They also get five scrimmages when we get two, which makes zero sense...

I would have hated playing basketball in Ohio!

The real question is why do teams need to play 30+ basketball games?

That makes no sense. Why would anyone associated with basketball want to play less games than 30?
