5th/3rd Bank Classic

Featured Replies

This will be a good tournament for Boone Co to show whether they are Top 20 material or not.

I agree. We hear a lot about Boone up here in NKY so it will be nice to see how they stack up against some of the state's top teams.

The 5/3 is always top notch and one of the top 2 tournaments in the state.

Actually Eta, the Sporting News ranks the 5th/3rd Bank along with the KOB as two of the top 20 tournaments in the country.

I knew it was one of the top tourneys in the nation but good to hear it got also got recognized by the Sporting news as well.

I am like you and believe that during the Lofton and Miller years Mason was invited every year. With the graduation of these two great atheletes, the talent level is not what it used to be at Mason Co. I am sure in the next year or two they will be invited back.

Not so sure they wasn't invited gold,I think they had to choose between this and trip to Florida as they were at the same time,They chose Florida.I think a lot people will be surprised how good Mason is this year as most are writing them off.:sssh:

Hey I smarter than that. just saying they will not have the big talent like Lofton and Miller to rely on this year as in the past. Mason will have a good team...just not the calibar of the last 8 years.

:thumb:First time in like 10 years they wont be in it.

Who are these teams in Daytona? Any of them strong at all?

I agree. Without Darius Miller last year, no way they win the state championship IMO.

Mason will be solid like always, but won't have the one player to lean on that can take over against any team in the state like Miller did last year for them. Miller was and is the reason Mason Co cut down the nets last year at Rupp.

Good tournament for them (and other teams) to play in. I don't think it necessarily shows whether or not they will be top 20 material. They won the South Laurel tournament last year, defeating Adair, Corbin, and South Laurel, all pretty good teams last year and finished 21-7 on the year, but they did not finish well. They will need to learn how to string wins together when it counts in the post season.

NOt the reason, was invited to play in Daytona, Florida like the above poster mentioned.

I agree mhighfield, the invitation was there but others seemed to think they know more. Probably shouldn't make statements unless the facts are there. The 2008 State Champions are heading south to Florida. The defending state champions will be just fine and those in Royal land will see a hungry and talented bunch of kids on the floor. Tradition Never Graduates!:thumb:

You have the wrong word I believe, wrong slogan my friend. I am not talking talent my friend, I am talking tradition. Tradition Never Graduates at Mason County!

Proof, 1982, Mason County goes undefeated before being ousted in the Sweet 16 and had nothing near the talent that they had in 1981 where they were State Runners Up. I know I have went back a few years, but to solidify my state of Tradition and not your statement of Talent, at Mason County. The Royals will be fine and again Tradition Never Graduates!:ylsuper:

You can count on Boone County being one of the better teams in December and January. They do not have the leadership that will get them ready to play when it counts.

Boone will play well early but they will fade fast in February and March.

Hopefully McFarland can be a leader on that team.
