October 10, 200817 yr It took 26 years to reach the peak set in 1929, but the market recovered from the Black Monday (1987) in two years. Black Monday 1987 saw the Dow drop 22.6%. The current crash is approaching double that amount. I am getting a bad feeling that a lot of people don't understand what is exactly happening this time around. No way there is full recovery in the next 2-3 years.
October 10, 200817 yr Dow just jumped back ahead at +47 with about 30minutes to go. It has been up and down several times today...just weird!

From the 10/1/87-10/19/87 the Dow lost 34% of its value. From 9/1/08-10/9/08 the Dow has lost 26%. The 1987 crash was greater and faster than the 2008 crash has been thus far. I guess you had to be there to realize how bad it was.
October 10, 200817 yr Author I'd love to see PG get back up to 63 (or higher) in the next 20 minutes... What is P&G at now?

That is true if you figured from the record high of over a year ago.
October 10, 200817 yr What is P&G at now? 60.50 - about even for the day. It dipped as low as 54.92 today.

I guess you had to be there to realize how bad it was. YTD -35.71%.87 had no where near the impact personally as to 08. Even going farther than that. Almost a year ago to the day, the DOW closed at its all time high of 14,164. So what is the loss in one year?? How long do you think it will take to reach the 14,000 plateau? 2-3 years? Doubt it.
October 10, 200817 yr That is true if you figured from the record high of over a year ago. Right, I just posted to that point:thumb:
October 10, 200817 yr It droped at -697, rose to +322 and then closed at -126 today! Talk about a roller coaster ride!

I guess you had to be there to realize how bad it was. It is of historical record that Black Monday 87 is the largest % drop (22.6%) in one day. What you have failed to mention is the fact that two day later almost half of that was recouped in a 10.15% rise. I sure hope something like that occurs now.

October 10, 200817 yr I think it will start to rebound next week...it can't fall forever. Lets hope so. I really do hope people understand the seriousness of this. It will and has changed people lives. The 30-40% people have lost in their 401Ks will not magically reappear in short order. The ones who have cashed or moved what's left to secure funds have accepted their loss and will not recoup losses. This is a "game changer".
