I in no way was casting stones at Jelico or Jenkins both schools are like McCreary in that they have a continuous strugle keeping their teams competitive and W-burg only schedules MC when they think they have better than 50% chance of winning. I say this because I personally heard a W-coach once say they would rather get beat 100 points by Corbin than lose to McCreary by 1. Anyway, I was just saying!:ylsuper:

Williamsburg scheduled this game last second because nobody else in the mountains would play them, at least that's my opinion. Imagine if a team the likes of Bell Co., Southwestern or Rockcastle Co. lost on an upset to a smaller school like Williamsburg. I think that's why the burg picked this game up, the bigger schools didn't want to take the risk of a loss.

Whitley and M'boro play LC almost every year with that possibility.

There are a lot of schools that face off against teams that have a possibility of beating them. I don't see Rock, Bell or SW dodging either a Lynn Camp or Williamsburg for this reason. I would say it was closer to both teams needing a game.

And to Williamsburg and Lynn Camps credit they don't dodge the bigger schools.

I agree, the local big schools have always been receptive to scheduling McCreary. Better than that they have always liked us so well they invite us to their homecoming.....they are such good friends!LOL!:dancingpa

Jenkins in the upset 22-19

There a lot of class A schools that play up in their non-district schedule. Both Mitchell and Herron are quality coaches and both know that playing the big boys is a way to promote their program and get ready for the play-offs. The schedule Campbellsville plays is brutal. Every week it seems the next team is ranked in the top 10 in their respective class. The overall record suffers but the experience gained in those tough contests are what pays off.

Jackets gain nothing but a win against Jenkins. Perhaps Coach Herron was looking for someone to play his younger kids against midway through the season. You can not play top 10 teams all season long. It could be worse. Williamsburg needs to pushed and they will when Lynn Camp and Campbellsville come into play. Jackets are having a good season. I only hope that they and the Hounds both do not suffer due to their regular season schedule once the playoffs arrive. It is nice to win games, but ultimately a team is judged by how far they go in the playoffs.

 

Williamsburg played Cumberland week 5 in 2007 and Evarts week 10. Everyone knows (maybe some don't) these schools consolidated with Cawood to make Harlan Central, this caused Williamsburg to need games these weeks. Williamsburg posted in Ky, TN, and WVA for games. The only school that responded week 5 was Jenkins. Jenkins was open because they were scheduled to play Evarts week 5. Jenkins 2007 record was 6-5, thrid place finish in their district and a first round playoff loss to Cumberlad. Jenkins beat Evarts in the regular season by more than the Jackets. It looked like a good game on paper. Williamsburg tried to schedule several schools for week 10. I know for a fact that the only game they could get was with a team out of WVA (4.5 hours travel time). Williamsburg choose to play Harlan week 8 and give up their by week between their big district games. It is very tough to schedule games in the middle of the 2 year contract.

A simple solution would be if the Jackets and Corbin would play each other. I know Williamsburg has wanted to schedule this game ever since 2003 and 2004. Corbin does not want to play this game, I do not know why.
