This game is my upset special of the week, SW 14,MC 7. Southwestern can play defense too.

 

I might be wrong but, I don't think Southwestern puts up 14 against Mercer.

SW is not Lincoln Co. Fast Tracks.

This should be a low scoreing game won or lost in the trenches.

Here are some tidbits on this matchup.

 

Mercer is 2-1 with wins vs. Pulaski County (38-7) and Lincoln county (47-0). They lost in their opener to Madison Central (25-0) but it was a game that Mercer moved the ball and had way too many turnovers.

 

Southwestern enters the contest with a mark of 2-1 owning victories over Somerset (48-28) and South Laurel (46-42). Their lone loss was to Danville (26-7).

 

Southwesterns opponents have a mark of 5-4 on the year and Mercer's opponents show a 4-5 mark.

 

It looks like Southwestern has faced a couple of good offensive teams and have given up a lot of points. That would be deadly vs. Mercer. The Titans have shown some potent offense in their last two games and shutdown defense.

 

It appears that Mercer should win this one going away but Southwestern has a big offensive line and if they can put their game together, and Mercer turns it over like they did in week one, a Warrior win isn't out of the quesiton.

 

Still Mercer appears to be the better team and should post win #3.

Not sure that the Southwestern defense can stop anybody to have a low scoring game. Look at what they've given up so far.

SW defensively has done a decent job so far this season if your take a hard look at the numbers

 

vs Somerset gave up 28pts to a team ave. 45ppg

 

vs Danville gave up 26 to a team ave. 25ppg (DHS had only 14 pts with just under 5 min remaining SW gave up to TD's in the last few min trying to press the issue and make something happen.)

 

vs. South Laurel gave up 42 to a team ave. 47ppg.

 

I realize these numbers are not outstanding and Mercer's Off may be the best yet to play SW, but I would not count out the Warriors Defense.

 

This should be a great game and I am looking forward to being there.

Southwestern has trouble with their pass defense. That's how Danville and South Laurel hurt them. As I understand it Mercer is mostly a running offense. Southwestern is better at run defense. This should keep the score lower. I am looking forward to this one.
