Just by briefly looking at the CNN electoral map, I see a realistic chance that the election could end up 269-269....What exactly happens if this actually occurs?

Not exactly. Each state only gets one vote. I don't know that breakdown or how each state gets to decide, say, if they had 4 Representatives for McCain and 4 for Obama.
