It was hard for me to stomach Palin's hypocritical assertions last night that Obama will raise taxes on individuals and businesses and hurt the economy when she essentially did the same thing to score political points back home in Alaska. Is that "Country First"?

Putting country first means a lot of things. Not hanging out with those who declared war on the US and bombed the Pentagon and Capitol, for example.

 

The media initially reported the tax increases as a "windfall profits tax," so forgive me if I wait to hear Palin's explanation first hand. Severance taxes are not the same as a wiindfall profits tax and it was dishones of Obama's media allies to mischaracterize the tax.

 

I think Palin is a very likable, empathetic person. However, even though she gives a good speech, I just don't think she's qualified (for a number of reasons) to backup a 72 year old president with a history of skin cancer. I can't be any more objective than to point out what should be obvious to an objective voter.

Palin is more qualified than Obama to be president. The fact that naming her has Obama supporters frantically trying to prove that Obama is as qualified as McCain's VP selection is hilarious. Those who thought that Obama's lack of executive experience would no longer be an issue with Palin on the bottom of the GOP ticket were badly mistaken. Palin has sucked the oxygen out of the Obamamania movement.

You're against the windfall profit tax as am I. Why? Because we know that any additional tax placed on the industry will ultimately come out of our pocket OR lead to the company seeking an alternative solution.

 

You're hung up on this not being a true windfall profits tax. It seems that based on my summary of your stated beliefs that you are playing a game of semantics. Any additional tax, regarldess if its on the revenue or the profits, is going to have the same result.

Yes. A very bad one. It was Dukakis's last elected office. He became extremely unpopular after the economy turned sour.

You're really picking the fly poop out of the pepper here. Palin raised taxes on the oil companies during a time of sky-high oil production and record oil company profits. The mathematical formula for determining the amount of severance tax may be different than a hypothetical "windfall profits" tax, but the effect is essentially the same--a larger cut of the big oil boom into government coffers. By the way, what is Palin's explanation? Was the task of governing a state that received fully half of its annual budget from oil taxes so hard that she felt the need to increase the ratio to 64%?

You keep thinking that. This isn't running the Wassilla town bake sale. This also isn't a role where you can instantly solve your budget problems quickly and painlessly. It's not the governorship of a rinky dink state with a population the size of Memphis. National politics is the big time. I hope Palin (and her past) are up to the task.

I don't think Palin is qualified to be president and wouldn't vote for her if she were running for President. Oh, that's right she isn't.

 

How is "The One" qualified?
