Did McCain Cave To the Right Wingers?

Featured Replies

To be clear, we all know that Lieberman was not the choice of the party. Are you saying that you don't believe he was McCain's first choice?

I have not seen anything to indicate that McCain made a decisional choice before Palin.

He may have been leaning one way or the other as the process went out but no one was the choice before Palin was offered the slot.

BTW, if a month ago, Romney was the choice he was leaning to, would that mean that Lieberman was NOT his first choice but Romney was?

Lieberman is a Democrat. McCain would have been committing political suicide to have placed him on the ticket and McCain is not a stupid man. If that is the basis of the claim that McCain caved to right wing pressure then that is certainly a stretch. Apparently it has never occurred to liberals that McCain might have leaked a bogus short list to the media so that he could keep the focus off of his actual short list.

The media really have the feelings hurt that they were kept out of the know by McCain but surprisingly their feelings were not hurt by O telling the world via text message before they told the media.

Maybe that is because the text messaging was not done until Biden's name had already been leaked to the media a few hours earlier. McCain showed that he could keep a secret and Palin was high on his list all the time.

I do find it ironic that you feel that the religious right can break McCain like the Vietcong could not.

Evangelicals must be some mean mama jamas to do what torture could not.

I'm less interested in "reporting" and more interested in an actual dialogue or debate.

So you truly don't believe that Lieberman was the first choice?

Said as a true man that does not understand women.:sssh:;):D That is not a negative, none of us do.

A BUNCH of women I deal with voted Hillary in the spring and have indicated they will vote McCain/Palin in November.

Now things could change from this point forward, but at this time, Palin has made them reconsider and lean towards McCain/Palin.

I ran names past them of Condoleeza and they say she would not have done it.

Meg Whitman, not have done it.

Some of the others and not have done it.

They love Palin.

If this is true than the strategists on the campaign are uncannily prescient. Woman considering the liberal policies of Clinton would then switch to support the conservative policies of Palin?

As I have said on here many times, I live with one and was brought to this earth by one that are doing JUST what you have indicated.

But you have ASSUMED an important point. That they agreed with the liberal policies of Clinton. Would you consider that there were women who disagreed with her liberal policies but voted for Clinton simply because she is female?

How do you get that?

Because it is not what you wanted to read.

He said that the selection came because part of the selection process was a political process to excite his party.

No different than O's choice was a political selection to offset the charges of inexperience.

You called it caving, he explained it was not caving but a smart political choice across the board. How is that irrelevant?

It is abundantly clear that McCain's selection of Palin was motivated by politics and not the best interests of the nation. If McCain truly put "Country First" as the GOP has plastered all over the Metrodome, he would have selected someone qualified like Romney or Ridge.

Palin wouldn't come close to being a credible candidate for President if she attempted a run (contrary to Biden, Romney, or Ridge). McCain caved.

And Habib, let me add Rice, Whitman, the lady from Texas, did not share the same support that Palin did.

The words to me were, She is a downhome mom just like us.

Now the spread in Vogue might do more damage to that view than anything else out there. Not many downhome moms have a spread in Vogue like that.

It's possible, but how many black conservatives are voting for Obama because he is black? And a massive amount of Clinton's appeal was derived from her policies and her ability to convey steady leadership, not that she was a female.

I find Romney nor Ridge qualified.

As Newt point out, just because you have the years of experience does not mean you are qualified if you are WRONG on the important issues.

I saw a stat the other day that 9 out of 10 black voters supported Obama. Same amount that supported Kerry and Gore.

Not much room to garner anymore support.

The female vote seems to be more flexible in who they support.

Another station said that married women tended to vote Republican. It seems that many of them supported Hillary in the primary and are returning home with Palin on the ticket.

If you think I am crazy, ask RebelK if I am crazy.

No. McCain and Lieberman are both smarter than that. The media is not.l

Interesting.

Many think that McCain's #1 weakness is the economy. How does Palin handle that better than Romney?

My wife disagrees with her on almost every issue.

She voted for her in May.

About gave me an aneurysm. I think she was doing it on purpose because she had just increased my life insurance.:p;):sssh:
