September 3, 200818 yr According to ABC News, yes. http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/09/03/2353903.htm?section=justin
September 3, 200818 yr Author If true, its one more example of the Maverick not having the intestinal fortitude to stand up for what he thinks is the best choice. Ironic that man who sacrificed so much and withstood unimaginable torture caved to the fanantics he always railed against.
September 3, 200818 yr Is this the same right wingers that Palin ran out of office in Alaska? ABC is just mad that they were reporting the governor was still in her home in Alaska on Friday and she wasn't.
September 3, 200818 yr Of course he did. He wanted his buddy Lieberman but the RNC refused him. They feel he needs to shore up his base with the Christian Right and Liberman would have destroyed that base. If you have to shore up your base this far into the campaign, you are in deep do do.
September 3, 200818 yr McCain could not have won the election without the enthusiastic backing of conservatives, which he now has. Assuming McCain wanted to win the presidency, Sarah Palin was the ideal choice. I have not seen conservatives so fired up and united behind a candidate since Ronald Reagan promised to deliver the country from the Carter nightmare.

No offense but your post is completely irrelevant to this thread. Do you care to actually comment on the issue at hand?
September 3, 200818 yr No offense but your post is completely irrelevant to this thread. Do you care to actually comment on the issue at hand? How do you get that? Because it is not what you wanted to read. He said that the selection came because part of the selection process was a political process to excite his party. No different than O's choice was a political selection to offset the charges of inexperience. You called it caving, he explained it was not caving but a smart political choice across the board. How is that irrelevant?

Assuming McCain wanted to win the presidency, Sarah Palin was the ideal choice. I have not seen conservatives so fired up and united behind a candidate since Ronald Reagan promised to deliver the country from the Carter nightmare. I vehemently disagree. Conservatives weren't staying home on election day (are the thread-a-day Obama attacks any indication?). Picking Palin brings no new voters to the table, probably turning off a few in fact.

Picking Palin brings no new voters to the table, probably turning off a few in fact. Said as a true man that does not understand women.:sssh: That is not a negative, none of us do. A BUNCH of women I deal with voted Hillary in the spring and have indicated they will vote McCain/Palin in November. Now things could change from this point forward, but at this time, Palin has made them reconsider and lean towards McCain/Palin. I ran names past them of Condoleeza and they say she would not have done it. Meg Whitman, not have done it. Some of the others and not have done it. They love Palin.

How is that irrelevant? I've read your posts and I've read Aces posts on here. I know for a fact that there is intelligence there. THIS THREAD poses a simple question: Did Sen. McCain want to pick Lieberman but the religious fanatics on the right threatened him if he did? It could be me but I don't see how saying that the party is excited about Palin and that she was the right pick have any bearing on the question/issue posed. I'm not saying Aces is wrong in his assertion. It simply doesn't respond to the issue of caving. Now if you don't believe that Lieberman was the first choice , that's different. So, do you believe the claim that Lieberman was the first choice? If so, do you think its odd that one that claims to be a "Maverick" caved ?

So, do you believe the claim that Lieberman was the first choice? If so, do you think its odd that one that claims to be a "Maverick" caved ? No. I think the party leaders choice was Mitt Romney. I don't think the religious leaders first choice would have been Palin. So, McCain went out and got the person he wanted that fit with his best political choice. Lieberman was not that. Do you really believe that if O had his real choice, that the person who called him clean and articulate would be that choice? Total guess but I would say if he could pick ANYONE, it would be that New England governor he said he was friends with and plagarized comments from.
September 3, 200818 yr Author No. I think the party leaders choice was Mitt Romney. I don't think the religious leaders first choice would have been Palin. So, McCain went out and got the person he wanted that fit with his best political choice. Lieberman was not that. To be clear, we all know that Lieberman was not the choice of the party. Are you saying that you don't believe he was McCain's first choice?
September 3, 200818 yr Actually it does not. Do you believe the report that Lieberman was the first choice? If so, do you find it odd that he caved being that he's the Maverick and all that? Then report it, please. Lieberman is a Democrat. McCain would have been committing political suicide to have placed him on the ticket and McCain is not a stupid man. If that is the basis of the claim that McCain caved to right wing pressure then that is certainly a stretch. Apparently it has never occurred to liberals that McCain might have leaked a bogus short list to the media so that he could keep the focus off of his actual short list.
