2008 Playoff Format

Featured Replies

Trying to find the playoff format for this year. What districts will be matched in the 3rd round. Couldn't find it on KHSAA's website.

Thanks in advance.

So if I read the previous post link with this link

http://www.khsaa.org/football/alignment.pdf

that means the CovCath / HHS District (5) plays the Clay County / Letcher Central District (8) in Rounds 1 and 2 as follows:

Round 1

G1 - 8(4) at 5(1)

G2 - 5(4) at 8(1)

G3 - 8(3) at 5(2)

G4 - 5(3) at 8(2)

Round 2

G5 - W of G1 v. W of G4 (better seed hosts)

G6 - W of G2 v. W of G3 (better seed hosts)

Round 3 (Regional 3 Champ)

G7 - W of G5 v. W of G6 (better seed hosts unless tied; if tied District 8 hosts because even # year)

Round 4 (Semi-State)

G8 - W of G7 v. W of Region 4 (District 6 v. District 7 games) (hosted by Region 4)

Round 5 (State)

G9 - W of G8 v. W of Region 1 v. 2 (District 1 - 4 games); Pizza Box

Correct?

You are correct. They basically went back to the old way of playing opposite district in your region in stead of playing with in your district like the last couple of years. Most coaches wanted to get back to this.

In every class except 6A (wonder why?), the quarterfinals will match up this way:

1 vs. 2

3 vs. 4

5 vs. 6

7 vs. 8

Incorrect. The CovCath district will meet the Ashland/Montgomery/Bryan Station/Johnson Central/Woodford district in the first three rounds of Region III.

D6-4th Place @ D5-1st Place

D5-3 @ D6-2

D5-4 @ D6-1

D6-3 @ D5-2

After those three rounds, whoever advances will play AT the winner of Region IV, which includes teams like Lincoln, Mercer, Pulaski, the Laurels, Clay, Letcher, etc.

Where's Kissinger?

I complained about how confusing the players were last year, and people are still confused. Other than the 15th Region basketball debacle, the worst mistake the KHSAA ever made was getting away from true regions in football. I'm glad they went back to the logical method.

I stand corrected. The detail above describes the 2007 column. Changing both the classifications and district matchups in the same year made it double confusing.

If a MOD can delete my post, that would be helpful in case someone doesn't read the full thread.

I understand completely. If the state was so set on making a playoff format change, it would have been much better if the KHSAA had waited and tried their new playoff plan for the first time last year, when the districts all changed and we went to six-classes. Then move it back to the old way NEXT YEAR when the next realignment came out.

Of course it doesn't always make sense with the KHSAA!
