Obama's "Not Exactly' Statements"

Featured Replies

Haven't seen this up here thought I'd throw it up. It's about Obama's 38 "not Exactly's"

Obama's "Not Exactly's": This person is more dangerous than any candidate in recent years....

1.) Selma Got Me Born - NOT EXACTLY, your parents felt safe

enough to have you in 1961 - Selma had no effect on your birth, as

Selma was in 1965. (Google'Obama Selma' for his full March 4,

2007 speech and articles about its various untruths.)

Information like yours is what will make this campaign really ugly. Lies contributed to Al Gore's loss. Lies were very instrumental in getting John Kerry beat. Now it is being tried again. Let's hope that the truth squads will keep the lies out of this campaign.

I read the book from cover to cover and never saw that statement. Page and edition number? Maybe I was asleep while reading it.

What lies are speaking of with Gore and Kerry?

Some of the 38 items are true and some have been exaggerated or are outright false. There are plenty of damaging facts in Obama's background worth exposing but when facts are mixed with smears, the facts get lost in the shuffle.

Obama did claim that the Selma march played a role in his conception, which was clearly a false claim. Obama also claimed that the Kennedy family played a role in getting his father into this country on a scholarship, which is also untrue.

The following is paraphrased from Obama's book.

"I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in

an ugly direction."

Obama actually said the following:

Of course, not all my conversations in immigrant communities follow this easy pattern. In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific reassurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.

Obama is talking about fellow American citizens in the above passages, and to the extent citizens are unjustly detained and questioned, I think most Americans would agree with him. (Non-citizens are another matter - I want our government erring on the side of caution.)

I thought he was talking about the lies told BY Gore and Kerry. :D

I actually agree with a lot of what Aces says. (gasp) There is enough to not like about Obama's stands that you don't need to just paste junk that is either twisting the truth at best or outright lies at the worst. You either like his stands or not. People just need to dig beyond email tripe and find if something is true or not before accepting and posting it as fact.

It is certainly not an honorable way to try to influence an election.

What lies are speaking of with Gore and Kerry?

Two that are quick and easy. Al Gore NEVER claimed to have invented the internet. The Kerry lie was far worse. The lie was told that somehow he didn't deserve his war medals. I really believe that lie cost him the presidency.

What made that one all the more despicable was the fact that it was told for the benefit of a person who sought refuge from the fighting in the Texas ANG.

Al Gore on his role in creating the internet:

"I took the initiative in creating the Internet."

No, Gore did not actually use the word "invent" but Edison created the first practical light bulb, Tesla created alternating current, and Salk created a polio vaccine.

As for Kerry, nobody proved or disproved whether Kerry deserved all of the medals that he received. There were conflicting eyewitness accounts and opinions of whether he deserved the medals and Kerry to this day has failed to honor the pledge he made on national TV to release all of his military records to the public.

What was proven to be an outright lie was the claim John Kerry made for 25 years about spending a certain Christmas in Cambodia.

What made that one all the more despicable was the fact that it was told for the benefit of a person who sought refuge from the fighting in the Texas ANG.
George W. Bush released all of his military records to the American public. Where are John Kerry's records?

Now, the same people who smeared John O'Neill for shedding so much light on the lies that John Kerry told upon his return from Vietnam are launching preemptive smears against authors of books critical of Barack Obama.

John Kerry did not even challenge most of the assertions that O'Neill made in Unfit for Command because they were very well documented. A few conflicting eyewitness accounts do not excuse the lies that John Kerry told about the hundreds of thousands of American troops that served honorably in Vietnam.

A few conflicting eyewitness accounts do not excuse the lies that John Kerry told about the hundreds of thousands of American troops that served honorably in Vietnam.

John O'Neill (the co-author of the Kerry smear book) has been shown to have lied about several topics related to his political affiliations, his involvement in Nixon administration efforts to counter Kerry's public statements, and even the qualifications of the veterans he quoted in the book to speak on the subject matter (only one veteran, Stephen Gardner, actually served on Kerry's boat and he admitted that he was not on the boat during the action related to Kerry's medals). The book did not bother interviewing the men who were actually under Kerry's command and on the boat; it was a completely one-sided account devoid of direct, first-hand testimony of those present during the relevant periods.

And Kerry did release his military records (including his medical records, which corroborate the injuries for which he received his medals). More distortions of the truth to damage the reputation of an honorably discharged, decorated veteran.

The perpetrators of the smear campaign put Kerry in a catch 22--challenge the charges publicly, thereby suggesting legitimacy by prolonging the media exposure -or- disregard the clearly partisan attacks and give the appearance of acquiescing to the claims. Most now believe he miscalculated and should have aggressively countered the claims.

The unvarnished truth of the matter is that Kerry is a decorated Vietnam combat veteran and, during the draft era, George W. Bush spent his time in a coveted Air National Guard spot, safely insulated from the perils of war.

The unvarnished truth is that after many years in the Senate Kerry lost because he had nothing to run on other than being a veteran. I find it amusing that people think lies from one side cost the other the election. Were there not lies from both sides coming out of those elections? Isn't there always?
