August 8, 200818 yr Author I will agree with you. Over a season, those numbers are great. Now explain why I should ignore April, June, and now August, when looking at those numbers. Because it's a long-distance race, not a dead sprint. You can't look at baseball stats like that, it's over the whole season. Look at the Colorado Rockies of last year. April 10-16 May 15-13 June 14-13 July 15-9 August 15-14 September (including October 1) 21-8 They made it to the World Series, you look at their overall record of 90-73, not the April record of below .500 or the mediocre May, June, and August. You look at it over the course of the season.
August 8, 200818 yr Average is such a bad indicator of how well someone is doing. If he hits 45-50 HR, has over 100 RBI, Walks and Runs Scored. Isn't that a FANTASTIC season? Your right average isn't a good indicator, but he hasn't hit 45 homers in four seasons, he didn't have 100 Rbi's last year, I'm not saying he doesn't put together darn good seasons as a whole, but he takes months off which really hurts the team, but when he is on, he is great to have. I have changed my mind over the past few months on Dunn slightly. I think I would keep him, but for the right price. Nothing over 10 Million a year.

August 9, 200818 yr My thinking is this. When the Reds are down by 1, with a runner on first and 2 outs, I would want Dunn or Phillips at the plate. Not Votto. Not Bruce. Not Hairston. Not Edwin. I'd want one of those two at the plate. It's just insane that Dunn is being used as a scapegoat for a Reds team that is mediocre at best from top to bottom. Would rather take my chances with either one of the bolded, and they are rookies.

The guy is almost twice as likely to not put the ball in play than any of the other guys. In that situation you'd want the guy that has the best chance of keeping the inning/game alive.
