Dunn is right around .220 LIFETIME with runners in scoring position. It is very rare to see him get a 2 out base hit or get that runner to 3rd with less than 2 outs. He isn't an "all or nothing" player, but my goodness it's frustrating to watch him at the plate more often than not.

 

Two thoughts. This has been an issue and one he has to improve to be considered one of the elite players.

 

2nd. Someone had it that he was top 2 or 3 in the NL in the % of runners that are on base that he drives in. Anyone have access to that number?

I found a bit of an interesting stat. Everyone says he doesn't perform when it counts. However, when he bats in the 9th inning, he hits .343, 4 HR, and 8 RBI in 33 AB.

When the Reds win, he hits .279 with 167 HR and 422 RBI in his career. Not shabby.

When the Reds lose, he has 103 HR and 223 RBI. A different of about 60 HR and 200 RBI. Nobody on base for him to drive in.

I'm not saying he's God's gift to baseball, but he's a good player, and one of the best on this average Reds team.

I'm a definite "fence straddler" when it comes to Dunn. I certainly see both sides to the argument and, like it or not, both sides have valid points. I do feel that one thing that causes Dunn to have his fair share of detractors is his lackadasical, non-chalant style of play. I know there are guys that just don't play with that "rah-rah" attitude and he is clearly one of them, but I would like to see a bit more emotion and energy out of him at times. I definitely feel it would help his standings with the fans.

Average is such a bad indicator of how well someone is doing.

 

If he hits 45-50 HR, has over 100 RBI, Walks and Runs Scored. Isn't that a FANTASTIC season?

My point all along is that Adam Dunn is not the problem with the Reds, anyone who thinks they would be better without him is so horribly out of touch they need to just not watch baseball anymore.

Dunn seems to be a great #5 hitter. No more than that.

Someone that can and will drive in runs but you cannot count on him to be consistent throughout the season doing it.

That seems to be more of the job of a #3 or #4 hitter.

I never said it was his fault. What IS his fault, is his terrible avg., his inability to get hits with RISP, his dreadful defense, etc....

I will tell you who will not win anything, and that is RFreel, JKeppinger, NHopper, CPatterson.

Unfortunatley in a small market town like the Reds and with their payroll, paying some $12-15 M a year will almost automically make him their #1 go-to guy. They just don't have the jack to buy a couple of other $15M range guys to allow Dunn to be a #3 or #4 player on the team.
