Last night, Molly, our dog, started coughing horribly bad. I feel that she has something small in her throat. PH and I were up with her all night. The emergency vet was in emergency surgery....so, we had to wait until the morning. I took her to the vet at 7 this morning. The lady that works in the office heard her cough and she said they could not take her because she thinks that other animals can catch what Molly has...and then, she told me the vet was in surgery most of the day. I told her that I know she might have thought today was going to be an easy day for her, however, our Molly is very important to us and she is not well...I told her that she has not eaten anything and when she tried to drink, she could not swallow it. She then told me that they would have to put her under...I told her fine, whatever that needs to be done is fine....

 

What do you all think? She said we would not know anything before 6pm....Molly is not used to be away from us and was crying and shaking...poor baby. When she coughs, it sounds dry and then she will spit up clear, foamy, think crap. Looks like foamy water. Has anyone every had this with thier dog before? She is not around other dogs and get all her shots, even kennel cough even though we don't leave her.....I just do not know what in the world.

 

I would not think something that she would have caught "airborn" as the lady in the office called it, would have come on so fast.

 

Thank you....just needed to vent my worry because PH finally went to bed at 5 this morning...I have not been to bed yet....she was having such a hard time.:cry:

Maybe I am over-reacting, but, after Daisy passing away all of a sudden from cancer, I am just really worried about Molly. We lost Daisy two years ago and I still miss her and when I see a Golden, I cry.

OMG, it sounds like she does have something in her throat. I hope they can do an xray to see. Our dog is always eating things, and chewing things he isn't supposed to , and when he tries to get it up, the way you describe it, is how he sounds. I will pray for you and PH and of course Molly. Keep us posted.

Why would they have to put her under to see if she has something stuck in her throat? That doesn't make much sense to me.

Thank you MrsFairFan.....That is what I was thinking, something in her throat...this lady just wanted to argue with me...but, I wanted to atleast leave her there (which I did) in case she stopped breathing or it got lodged.

 

LRCW, I don't know....I would think they could take an x-ray and know....but, I was told she would need to be put under to look and see if anything was there? I have never had this situation, so, I really don't know. Surely they have an x-ray machine? He is an older vet who is retired, however, loves animals so much that he re opened his practice....he is always full and everyone tells me he is the best in town....I would hope he knows what he is doing.

Mrs. PH I really hope that all works out with yor dog. I have to agree with LRCW though in that I just don't understand why they couldn't just x-ray to check the throat. This does sound like that you have a very accomplished and trusted Vet though. I sincerely hope and pray that all works out o.k..

Oh I know just how much Molly means to both you and MrPH. Please know that my prayers are with you and Molly. If you need anything you know you can call.

I just called and checked on her....The stupid witch will not tell Dr Denton that she is there...she said she will not bother him in between surgeries and let him know she is there...I am sooo upset. Anyway, she said she is still coughing but doing fine. Then I asked why they would have to put her under for an xray. She said that the vet does not do xrays if he thinks something is in the throat because it might miss something really small that is lodged....instead, he uses a scope to go into the throat so he can see everything and not miss anything....does this sound legit to you all...I guess it makes since to me. I don't know, I have never delt with this before...

The dumb dumb there said that it might be around 6pm...I know that he is busy today doing surgeries, however, I wish she would atleast let him know that she is there! GRRRRR I am going to tell him about this when I talk with him later. He used to see Daisy and he would check her out after she would have a seizure inbetween his surgeries....But, he knew that she was there...he does not know that Molly is there. I think this women just wants his him done with the surgeries so that she can call all the pet parents and go home. Like she said, today is supposed to be an easy day for her....POOR HER!

I guess I could....I found one place, our vet hospital, and they said he was booked up, however, they could see her at 4pm...I really think I will leave her there because I trust him...I am just really upset with the receptionist. I just feel so bad for Molly....I know, whatever is wrong, she is miserable.

I'm so sorry to hear about this! I absolutely love dogs, and will keep Molly and your family in my thoughts and prayers today.

Mrs. PH, definitely try and get her to another vet. There is bound to be somewhere else in Bowling Green, especially if you explain it is an emergency. Is there anyone else in your vet's practice? If I were you, I would go and get Molly immediately. With that woman in the front, you cannot be assured she would take care of Molly if she were to get worse. That receptionist sounds like a real piece of work... As soon as you get Molly taken care of, you better go after that receptionist with both barrels and make sure her boss knows what kind of person is in his front office.

Another thing, are there no nurses at your vet? Our vet has techs that "triage" for the actual vets.

Scoping is legit,but I am sure thats going to be a pretty penny. I know when you love an animal, there is not cost that will stop you though. But at least they aren't just doing an x ray if she needs to be scoped. Bummer that its taking so long. Kinda makes me wonder that if the DR knew Molly was there, that he might check on her and scope in between surgeries or something, and miss thang at the desk wants to go home so shes not telling him. HOW RUDE. Hang in there.
