I'm surprised Pulaski Co is not being talked about more. I honestly expect a lot from them. Muse is back after a 2000 yr rushing year with 19 touchdowns, most of his line is returning. All after a 10-2 season.

 

I agree, I have them 6th in my poll just behind the powerhouse programs that are very good every year.

Who that 10-2 season came against and all those stats are why....

 

Last season their only quality wins were a shootout win over Somerset (Not a Top 5 3A team) a very close win over a rebuilding Mercer County team, and a victory over 4A Knox Central who fell flat.

 

Pulaski, Johnson Central, and Letcher Central are all quality teams that are about equal...but none of the three will be in contention for the state title.

I can see your argument, and I wouldn't say they are going to be a major contender, mainly because of what teams they would have to beat in the playoffs. But, I see this ranking as the best in the state, and you could quite possible have two teams from the same district in the top 2 (Cov Cath and Highlands), now one of these teams is not going to be a contender for the title, because one has to lose well before the championship game.

 

Anyway, my point: Pulaski's schedule may have not been the best last year, but one year of confidence and experience with many starters returning could mean a lot.

Take away Highlands and where would CovCath be? Probably either #1 or #2.... their is a difference in not being a contender because the only other team better than you is in your district, and not being a contender because you couldn't beat any of the Top 5 teams in the state, and it would be a toss-up against the 5-10 teams.

JMO I think the Birds might be better this year than last..Especially at the skilled positions...HHS will be able to run and throw at will.The Birds were more of a run oriented offense in 2007...I think their offense will be a lot more diverse in 2008....

If Highlands stays injury free they will win class 5A without much trouble, better than last year IMHO.

Sorry, can't see it...They'll reload as usual, but, I believe last years Highlands team was one of, if not the best they've had, at least according to alot of there own fanbase...

I know its just an opinion thread but if you go on predictive history, its hard not to have Highlands, CCH, and BG. Basically saying it will BG and Highland/CCH in the state finals.

HHS will be just as good as last year...just differently. They no longer can impose their will at the line of scrimmage. But the threat of a multi-faceted passing game will give the lineman a better shot at blocks as the defense will not be "dug in" against the run. I look forward to seeing alot of long runs from the Bird's this year...both from scrimmage and short passes!!

I know its an opinion poll. And in my opinion JH doesn't belong being rated higher than either Highlands or CovCath at this point.

Honestly, I can see it. As DMZ pointed out, it will be a different style offense, but it may be more productive than last years. On defense, we actually may be better than last year. We'll see soon enough.
