Samardzija Picks Up Save For Cubs

Featured Replies

Samardzija gets the control problems lined out and nearly strikes out the side as he puts Marlin batters down 1-2-3 as he picks up the save for the Cubies. Stuff still nasty.

We have a Track the Cubs thread. :thumb:

As one of the biggest Cubs fans on the site, along with Scribe, Rocket, 3timelover, just to name a few, I am aware of this. However, I just thought this deserved a thread of its own. With the stuff he has shown in his past two appearances I think not only has Samardzija picked up a roster spot, but will soon become one of the biggest rising star arms in the bigs. :thumb:

He will be the Joba of this year.

I agree he can be but, I think he is still a year away. He needs to develop his other pitches more. He will be successful at first but they will adjust to that heater and he will have to learn to throw his other pitches. He shows a lot of promise.

Agreed, but the coaching he will get from Rothschild and Strode will benefit him much more than any of the coaching available to him in the minors. IMO with these guys' help he will develop his other pitchers, and hone what pitch skills he already has even sharper.

Believe me, if I had my way, we would start a Cubs thread after every win. No need to talk about the losses.

They need to keep him in the pen when Wood comes back. He is going to have ups and downs, but he looks great so far. Today was a big, big win, not just the comeback, but pitching those two innings to close it out was just huge.

When Wood comes back I say keep Jeff up and send Bob down to triple AAA, he's been horendous lately and most of the year.

I'm very pumped about the promise Samarzija has shown this year, I really am surprised he made it up this year, I figured he was still a year away. But he's got some nasty stuff and once he gets his control and secondary pitches down, he's gonna be a star

As a big Irish fan and a big Red Birds fan its hard to root for Jeff now ha. I have to say though I am happy to see him pitching well. Its hard to think of him as a Cub/MLB pitcher, I still think of him as Brady's favorite target.

I say send Howry out of town on the first bus. Whenever I play as the Cubs on any simulation game, the first thing I do is release him.

Let me third this, and lets hope Hendry reads BGP's

Seriously though this needs to happen, and I strongly look for it too. With Marmol not having to be overworked now, I think this will work out good being Wood will not have to be rushed back before he is ready. We all know that with Wood little injuries always somehow turn into big ones.

I'm begining to wonder if Wood has a blister on his rotator cuff...

He just needs to soak his fingers in pickle juice more. Or use more superglue.

That really work?

The brine in pickle juice is supposed to toughen up the skin. It's also drank by football players in August as a way to fight leg cramps due to dehydration.

The superglue keeps your skin together.
