Irons waived by Bengals

Featured Replies

The Bengals today waived HB Kenny Irons, under the category of Waived/Failed Physical. Irons failed the team physical earlier this week.

Irons, from Auburn, was Cincinnati’s second-round choice in the 2007 draft. He has been unable to play or practice since suffering a torn left knee ligament (ACL) in the ’07 preseason opener last Aug. 9 at Detroit. He spent the ’07 season on Cincinnati’s Reserve/Injured list.

I just read this. Can't they just put him on the PUP list, or even IR for the year? There's got to be more to this than just a failed physical, as everyone knew he would fail a physical at this point based on everything that has been said in the media.

Agreed. Something else is up here...

Wow. Another Ki-Jana Carter-type scenario. Bengals cause most of their own problems, but this one is just plain bad luck. He could have helped the Bengals immensely.

Feel bad for the guy. When my son was having surgery last year over at UC, Irons was there having another scope done. He talked to my son for about 15 minutes, and was just a very nice, and funny guy.

Waiving Irons comes as a big surprise, but I wasn't expecting anything from him the first half of the year. Now I'm really wondering about the running back situation. Rudi is 100%, and they say he looks great. They said Perry looked good in the OTA's, but yet Perry said he's still only about 80%. Will he be 100% going into training camp? DeDe has a bad groin right now, and we don't know how bad it really is. I've heard he'll be ready for camp, and I've heard he'll miss some time. If he misses, how much? They were big on James Johnson during the offseason, so maybe they're expecting a lot out of him. I imagine we'll see a lot of him during the preseason. This next month should be interesting to see how the RB situation works out for this year.

2005: David Pollack (1), Odell Thurman (2), Chris Henry (3), Adam Kieft (5), Tab Perry (6)

So not counting this year's second-round pick, Jerome Simpson, Andrew Whitworth is the only second-rounder picked by Lewis that's still a Bengal.

Other than Steinbach, are any of the others starting for other teams?

That's sad, especially when there are only 3 on that list where coaching/scouting/management wasn't at fault.

Madieu will start in Minnesota. Landon Johnson might get an opportunity in Carolina.

Clearing cap room for Shaun???

  • Author

From CTR...

"Kenny’s going to be fine," David Irons said on Friday. "It’s a minor set-back, it has to be done for the team. For roster and salary cap purposes."

David Irons said he expects his son to clear waivers and then be put on the Bengals' reserve list, which would end his season.

Clearing cap room for Shaun???

Ultra-likeable guy, but just don't see how he improves the Bengals backfield situation all that much. Surely there'll be some more valuable names cut as pre-season winds down, wouldn't you think?
