July 16, 200818 yr I still can't understand why the game starter can't pitch three innings and the next guy pitch three innings. You would have some pitchers left over. And why does Francona empty his bench in a tie game? Like 2002, the blame falls with the managers if they call this game in a tie also.

But if it's a 9 inning game you would have used 2 pitchers in 2/3 of the game. You'd have some ticked off guys. It's on the league for making a stupid rule in determining home field advantage. No one would care if it was a tie if it didn't 'count'.

Webb, Lincecum, Dempster even. That's three you really can't use. Nothing wrong with pitching three innings.
