Why you OUGHT to Judge

 

At least one lesbian is not happy with me for the case I made last week against same-sex marriage on our TV program. She wrote me this ALL CAPS e-mail with “VERY JUDGEMENTAL” in the subject line:

 

ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE ME AND I AM A CHRISTIAN LESBIAN AND HAVE BEEN FOR ALMOST 20 YEARS. STOP JUDGING AND MOVE ON!!! I AM SO TIRED OF ALL YOU UPTIGHT, DO RIGHT, SINNERS JUDGING PEOPLE.

 

I wrote her back asking her why she was judging me for judging. It seemed like a fair question. After all, if I am not to “judge” her, why is it OK for her to judge me? And if she’s a Christian, doesn’t she know that God has already judged homosexual behavior as immoral? I mean, I didn’t make the judgment that homosexual behavior was wrong. God is the standard of morality, not me.

 

But the main point is that my lesbian pen pal did what most liberals do when they are faced with arguments they don’t like—they misuse Jesus’ apparent command not to “judge” in order to shut you up. So if you oppose their behavior or their attempt to get the nation to endorse their immorality (i.e. same-sex marriage), you’re sure to hear “Thou shalt not judge!”

 

 

Agreed, it is ironic that people can't judge them because of this passage but they can judge people for judgeing them!

Actually I would say: "Eye for eye, tooth for tooth." Read the whole litany of laws and you might be terrified at what could happen to you if you've got an ox with a bad reputation and he gores someone.

I think the modern version of the verse is "People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones."

Both are sins and if go unrepented of (no change is made) will seperate us from God according to the bible. Any sexual relationship outside of marriage is wrong.

 

However, the Lord reserves some harsh words for homosexuality in the NT especially in Romans. In the OT the Lord destroyed two cities both known for their blantant homosexuality Sodom and Gomorah. It is one thing to make a mistake here or there but to live in constant rebellion towards God's word and expect to be saved is arrogant and very dangerous to the condition of your soul.

 

We all have sinned but we should realize our sins and try to get out of those situations not live in a blantant disregard for God's word.

 

Someone that is more of a biblical scholar may have to help me here, but aren't there also instances where God addresses adulterers and adulteresses and has some harsh words for them?

 

As to your issue of constant rebellion towards God's words, wouldn't that hold true for those heterosexual couples that never get married? What about those that divorce and remarry? Again - I do not claim to be a biblical scholar - where is that permissible in the Bible?

Yes, those people are also in constant rebellion (unless the divorce is based upon the exception in Matthew 19). They need to make a change according to 1 Corinthians.

We are now under the NT. OT commandments such as offering animal sacrifices and not working at all on the Sabboth are done away with. But that is a whole new subject!

You will find no great proponent of that thought than myself (unless it is Paul). :thumb:

 

I was just quoting that verse as an "out of context" verse often used (or misused) to support things like Capital Punishment and such.

They have just as much right to get married and be miserable as straight people do. LOL

Our way of judging as Jesus's way is Apples and grapes. Its the way we try to help a non Christian or a brother who is going down the wrong road. Using scripture to point out error is not judging someone. Now don't judge me for pointing this out.
