Five years after Leo Groeschen pitched Newport Catholic to its first state baseball title in 1946, he was standing in a field in North Korea waiting to come home from war.

 

It was so cold, 15 below zero, he got frostbite in his toes, from which he still suffers today.

It is a great story. Most people could not even begin to appreciate it.

We need more stories and history about KY greats. Maybe it will help ignite our greatest past time, which seems to be dying in most parts of KY. Baseball Baseball Baseball!
