There is a lot of good pitchers that I have seen in the past ... I know one class had Becky Abner and Heather Fruedenberger, who were dominant pitchers at the time. But, players have improved tremendously hitting the ball since then, but I would still take Abner over any pitcher, any day because she was the most competitive player I have ever seen.

So, to answer you question ... I'm not sure. LOL!

Yet another error on my part! I just started thinking pitchers, and she came to mind.

I have seen her umpiring some middle school games. You can still see the fire in her eyes. I saw a coach start to come on the field to question a call during a game. He was directed back to the dugout before making it 5 steps towards the field. One point of the finger and the statement "Coach, I am not going to listen to that right now" and the conversation was over.

 

She was the first pitcher I ever saw where grown men in the stands commented how she intimidated them and they wouldn't want to try and hit her. Off the field, she is a very nice person, but on it, she was an intimidating force, that's for sure.

Yep, she sure was. Becky's high and tight pitch always put the batter in their place and kept them off-balance.

I'd say it may very well be the best class of pitchers ever, but what is sad is that neither Allen or Riley are scheduled to play in the all-star games. This means neither will be playing for KY in the KY/TN all-star game. This will be the third year in the three year history of the KY/TN series that Miss Softball will not be playing for KY. We can't beat the TN all-stars unless the best players are participating, especially the pitchers.

From what I've been told (just got off the phone with a game official) Ryle's Allen will be playing one game Saturday and one game Sunday. Riley from what I was told — will not.

Plus, even if Allen wasn't there for the All Star game with Tennessee, you're getting just as good of a pitcher with someone like Sears.

I would have Allen, Sears, Riley or Clark pitching for my team and feel pretty good about my chances!

I know Cassie Aldridge of Frankfort, who was Class A all state, was also a pitcher.

Isn't the main difference between D-I and others for softball pitchers their height? Most are close to if not taller than 6 foot. I think the girl from Virginia Tech was the only 5'5" or so that I have seen on TV in the playoffs.

You can throw Kelsey Caudill from Lawrence Co in there. She led them to their 1st ever state tourny apperance where they beat Reidland and was tied with Owenboro Catholic late. She had over 400 strikeouts this year and multiple no hitters. One of the state's best kept secrets this year. Great group of pitchers this year, no doubt!

Another one is Raceland's Paige VanHoose who had 50 wins the past 2 seasons and led Raceland to the Class A runner-up in 2007 and the 16th Region Finals. She was Ashland Daily Independent Pitcher of the Year and has signed to play at The University of Dayton. Stick1 I also believe our girls from Eastern KY sometimes don't get the credit they deserve.
