Rumor has it that Lex Turner wont be back to St. Pat next year, after serving as the AD for nearly 30 years. From what I've heard Chris Bauer is at the top of the runnings for his replacement. Has anyone else heard anything about these rumors??

Wow! I would hope if this is true that this would be on Lex's terms. I can't really imagine St. Pat athletics without Lex Turner running it.

It's been a tough year for Lex and I wish him the best. He is a great person and was in it for the right reasons. Always great catching up with him at the State Tourney.

Very little chatter about this story since news broke last week. Anyone heard anything more about this situation, is there a person ready to step in to do the job from within?

I would think they would give that job to someone who is employed at the school and is readily available on a daily basis. I would have never thought of them giving it to someone employed outside the school system. Is that common? I though most AD's were employees at the school. If they need not be employed at the school then I guess Chris Bauer could be an canidate for the job. But there will also be a teching position open because Lex Turner was also the high school science teacher.

Any chatter as to why the contract was not renewed? Mum seems to be the word on this issue. It would seem a man that has been as loyal and dedicated to St. Patrick as Lex has both academically and athletically, he would be able exit differently. What is the story?

I agree Press--seems strange to let him go and perhaps even more strange that there is no discussion about it.

 

Coach Turner was not only a good coach (at several sports) but was also a capable athletic director and from all indications a good biology teacher.

 

St. Pat has big shoes to fill in all of those areas.

 

I would have liked to see Coach Turner go out on his own terms--he more than earned it and stayed with St. Patrick in lean years with others would have left.

 

Just doesn't see right to me.

Is anyone saying why he was let go?

Here's the article that was in the Maysville paper a few days ago. No reason given as to why his contract was not renewed.

 

Coach Ormes, now Coach Turner. There's a new day dawning on Limestone Street, and it doesn't look like the "old guard" will be around to be part of it.

I have never been a huge fan of Lex Turner or Jerry Ormes (that is only because I am usually on the opposing side), but this makes NO SENSE!! I am just hoping that this is something that was reached mutually for Coach Turner. However, the Ledger article sounds like that is not the case. What has happened to this school?

No reason was given for the non-renewal of Turner's one-year contract. Wehage said the position of the Diocese of Covington is that as a private school, St. Patrick is under "no obligation that reasons have to be made public."

 

It makes no sense to get rid of Turner. Wonder what he did.

It sounds like the people at St. Patrick are trying to pass the buck as to who actually made this decision. I can't belive that after 30 years of loyalty to a school system that Lex Turner would be treated this way. I think it shows very poor taste plus a lack of consideration for a loyal employee and his family.

I don't think we should be passing judgement on anyone at St.Patrick School system until the facts on why Lex is leaving is made public. I feel certain that there are circumstances that we are not aware of in this decision. It will be very hard to replace Lex at St. Pat in any of his capacities. However sometimes changes are necessary for many reasons and some will never be known by the public nor should they be. Lex is a good person, coach, and A.D., he will be missed. I hope Lex enjoys whatever he decides to do. If it were me I would sit back and enjoy some time off he has earned it.
