Top 5 returning 13th region players

Featured Replies

I think Middlesboro is improving.

The region was down a little, but not that much. South had three pretty good seniors. Knox had three seniors starting and one of the most experienced sophomores in the state.

I would hope they would improve. They did lose Griffith who was a very good shooter, but if they aren't getting better that would be a huge issue. They maybe improving, but there is no excuse for them being so bad at defense over the years. Maybe they will finally get better defensively this year.

Off the top of my head, if I were picking a competitive team from the 13th, I'd take:

G - Zachery - Bell Co.

G - Strange - Pineville

F - Siedel - North Laurel

F - Crawford - Corbin

C - St. John - South Laurel

6 - Johnson - Corbin

7 - Smith - Clay Co.

8- Wilson - Corbin

9 - Caldwell - Harlan Co. Cen.

10 - Gilbert - South Laurel

*This is considering Miller is gone to Hazard.

I've only seen alot of these players a hand full of times, so it's only anyone's guess though...

Miller will be at Knox Central or South Laurel next year. This is a very talented list. Crawford will hopefully be back to full strength next year.

Somebody is supposed to be moving every year at this time.

It rarely happens.

It should mean something to you,"LITTLE ABOUT IT" thats the problem. My 9 year old knows a little about it but that dont make him a coach. This coach jones took over a young team with alot of bad habbits and it takes a little while to break those habbits. There defense improved last year and i think it will improve this year.

Typical response. Bell came from the Jimbo Terry years into the Whitaker years and made it to the region semi's the next year, region semi's the next one, and the region finals the following two years. Pretty sure they had some bad habits to break and they seemed to do okay, and that was when the region was actually pretty strong. I like Jones as a person, but he just doesnt have it to get it done. They need something else.

Wasn't Terry the coach when Bell made it to the regional finals in 1996?

Some coaches make it based on talent and experience. Middlesboro cant even do that. I know it was a dig at me, but helps me prove my point...

I never dig at you, even when you dig at me.

They still lost a lot of games to regional opponents. Thats a little misleading. The region was very young last year. South Laurel, Bell Co., Knox Central, and Corbin all had really young teams, which means offenses in general were not as strong this year. I wish Coach Jones the best, but after 2 seasons you shouldnt still be making excuses for poor defense and blaming the previous coach, although he wasn't very good. That just doesn't fly.

Stats are stats, nothing misleading about that. The only excuses being made are the ones you are making. Middlesboro can't help if the region was young, that was my point that middlesboro was also young and still improved on defense. If you want to give credit to the other region teams for middlesboro playing better defense, thats fine. As a coach you take it any way you can get it.

Stats are misleading. Middlesboro is not a very good defensive team. You are the one who made excuses about correcting bad habits developed. They have not been corrected and Middlesboro has a long ways to go to be a contender.
