April 29, 200818 yr Author I think it is a wait and see on how the season plays out for all 32 teams, but I think their below average WR core is going to hold them back. I do hope they knock off the Colts in their division... :thumb:Me too... It's always a wait and see...you never know how these drafts will turn out and it's really not fair to judge them until about 3 years down the road, IMO. I guess I just have a lot of confidence in the Titans ability to identify the type of players they want for their system and their ability to develop players. They never went after big time WR's before when they had one of the best teams in the league for a few years and nearly won a Super Bowl. Derrick Mason was a late round pick who started as a kick returner... It's just a matter of getting the right guys in place for their system...if they do that, they can win with their style of play, despite what Steve Young thinks. You don't have to have an elite passing attack to win...when the Titans are on their game, they control the ball and wear you down on offense, and they keep you off the field and beat you up when you are on the field defensively...I like their style. It isn't the most entertaining, but it's old-fashioned, physical, hard-hitting football...and it's successful. If you just looked at the rosters last year, I'm not sure anyone would have rated Tennessee as the 6th best team in the AFC.

April 29, 200818 yr Author Jeff Fisher is a good coach too. Definitely...I read a few rumors that hinted that Tennessee might fire him when they were struggling. With the state of sports today, I was really scared they were going to get rid of him and ignore the fact that they had to make huge cuts to get under the salary cap...the Titans were out of the picture for a couple years because they had to "pay the piper" so to speak... I'm really glad the organization had enough sense to realize that they have one of the best coaches in the league and not send him packing as a scapegoat. Fisher is a top 5 coach, IMO...of course, I'm biased. I also think Heimerdinger is a good fit with the Titans...I expect their offense to be more productive this year. It was pretty abysmal at times last year. The biggest key to Tennessee's fortunes next year though is Albert Haynesworth. He has to stay healthy and he has to be motivated...without him their defense is very average...with him, it's one of the best. If you contrast what they did with and without him last year, you could have made a case for him to be MVP. I'm looking forward to the upcoming season...hopefully I'll actually get to watch them play a few games for a change. They're still probably a year or two away from being really good (if they get there), but you never know in today's NFL. In any case, I'm happy with a competitive team and a playoff contender. If they can stay healthy and the offense can improve, they should be right in the thick of things again. But, there aren't many teams in the NFL who are out of it before the season even starts...most of the teams have enough pieces in place that if they avoid injuries and a couple of things click for them, they're in the hunt for the playoffs.
April 30, 200818 yr Johnson might have been a little bit of a reach. I really think he is a great compliment to White (a lot of NFL teams are now looking for that kind of duo). With the zone blocking he is a homerun hitter IMO. I like what he can bring to the table as far as being able to take it to the house. I'd venture to say that he+Vince will be the fastest QB+RB ever in the same NFL backfield. IMO they REALLY dropped the ball at WR. I just don't understand why you go out and get your "franchise QB" then surround him with subpar talent to throw the ball too. I'm a huge Fischer fan but I don't agree with them about their talent at WR. They blew it IMO! I like the Bengals and Titans so I think a CJ for A. Haynesworth (might have to add picks if your are Cincy) would benefit both teams. I don't think the Titans will be able to pay Haynesworth+Cincy would be instant Super Bowl contenders IMO if they could work this deal out. For Vince he would now have his #1 toy he has been missing on the outside.
April 30, 200818 yr ^ I agree stick but there just wasn't that game-breaking WR in the draft this year. There was no Calvin Johnson. There was no Randy Moss. There was no Roddy White. It was a poor year for receivers because most of the good ones came out early and should have stayed in another year. The Titans brought back Justin McCareins, who knows the Heimerdinger offense. And Johnson can line up at receiver also and is a kick returner. Anyone remember the last time the Titans returned a kickoff for a score? I can't either.

I'm with you that there was no Calvin Johnson or Randy Moss (I can't throw Roddie White in there with them out of college although he looks like he is going to be good). There might not have been those can't miss guys but there was a lot of talent I think. Much better than what is on Tenn's roster. McCareins couldn't even play in NY and I've always thought he was overrated. The Titans usually aren't real flashy in the draft but always put a solid product on the field. With Albert+VanDon Bosh they are always going to be pretty good on that side of the ball. I like the RB tandem they have in place but they might as well get used to the box being about as stacked as you can stack it because they have next to zero threats in the passing game. Their WR/TE are about as bad as there is in the game. I just don't get it why they wouldn't get Vince some talent there. I like the Titans but I don't think they can sniff the Jags/Colts over a season right now. I'd say they are 3rd in that Division.
April 30, 200818 yr Sidenote-They took a guy who wasn't even in the NFL's player database (Hayes)...ahead of Hawkins. They must be very sneaky in Tennessee...

There is no way you can possibly believe trading Albert Haynesworth for Chad Johnson benefits the Titans...that is a ridiculous statement. The Titans defense took a huge hit when Haynesworth was out last year...they're going to keep Haynesworth. You can't let the cornerstone of your defense walk. I do agree that trade would benefit Cincy tremendously though. No way it's going to happen though...why are you so determined to see Tennessee trade their best player and the best DT in the NFL? I thought you liked them.

I thought you liked them. Here's the way I'm looking at it if I'm Tenn. Vince might have the worst weapons in the NFL. CJ is a top 10 WR if not top 5. Tenn is probably going to lose Haynesworth because the Browns overpaid Rodgers. So... I can play another year with Big Albert then lose him or I can get CJ out of him. I don't think it's that far fetched. Obviously it would hurt Tenn's defense just as losing Chad hurts the Bengals offense. Both teams get top players at their position while both teams are running the risk out of getting nothing out of their studs. Does that make more sense in why I was talking about the possibility?
April 30, 200818 yr The Titans had drafted 7 WR's in the three drafts prior to 2008... I remember them passing on Moss for Dyson...
May 1, 200818 yr Author I remember them passing on Moss for Dyson... There was a reason that a lot of teams passed on Moss. It turned out to be a mistake. The Titans took a chance on Pac Man and got burned...luck of the draw. You never know when to take a chance and when to pass on guys with questionable character. I think I'd just pass on them every time...there are enough good players, IMO, to validate not taking chances on potential problems.

No, because Chad would not be happy in Tennessee. He's going to be a problem if 1) his team isn't a contender and 2) he isn't getting the ball enough. Tennessee minus Haynesworth would win a maximum of 6 games...and the Titans offensive scheme combined with Vince Young would not keep Chad happy. It would be a disaster. I'm also not convinced that Tennessee can't keep Haynesworth. I think they will...or they can keep franchising him like Walter Jones in Seattle...if they do trade him, then I'd want draft picks. Not Chad Johnson. That trade isn't happening. Last report I read said Haynesworth wanted to stay in Tennessee.
May 2, 200818 yr You might not want CJ but I'm sure Vince would lobby for him unless you think he's an Eric Mould, J. Gage etc fan. I mean that is probably the worst group in the league. I sure as heck wouldn't want to loose Haynesworth myself. I'd take him all day every day over CJ. He makes the Titans IMO along with VanDon Bosh BUT if I felt like I couldn't keep him it would be a great business move for the Titans. I understand what you are saying. I wouldn't want to loose him either + Tenn doesn't I don't think BUT if they thought they were going too then it would be worth them looking into. I don't think it's going to happen but I could understand it if it did. (I hope my tone in the earlier email didn't sound bad, in no way did I mean for it too because I've enjoyed chatting with you. Sometimes things look worse when you look over them on the net).
