Theoldguy Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 CovCath 8 Cov Holmes 0 in a 35th District Seeding game, or as someone said in another thread, CovCath didn't have a dominate pitcher because of the lack of strikeouts they earn, but can you say Isler? You all know the routine by now.
Getreal Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 However good it was, it probably isn't good enough for DD.
Theoldguy Posted April 22, 2008 Author Posted April 22, 2008 The CovCath good; Zach Isler throw a complete seven innings of shutout baseball allowing no one to walk, striking out 12 and pitching a no-no. If by definition having a lot of strikeouts makes for a dominating outing, then Isler had that tonight. Ice faced only 23 of a possible 21 batters and if not for a bad call by the man in blue behind the plate of a bunted ball, and not a HBP and a batter later a E-3 Isler throws a perfect game. No way, no how, was Isler hittable today. BTW that is five (5) straight complete games by the CovCath pitchers. Maile was 3 for 3 and 1 walk and has through the last three game reached base safely in nine straight at bats. LaFever goes 2 for 3, Niehaus goes 2 for 4 and Darner goes 1 for 1 CovCath bad; CovCath left far too many men on base and had 2 runner thrown out at the plate. 3 AB 3 hits double 1 walk and 3 runs scored Maile 3 AB 2 hits and 1 sac LaFever 3 AB 1 hit 1 walk (int) 2 runs scored and reached via FC Isler 3 AB 1 hit 1 sac 1 run scored reached base via E5 and FC Nutini 3 AB 1 hit double 1 walk and 1 run scored VanSant 1 AB 3 walks and 1 run scored Holocher 1 AB and 2 SF George 4 AB 1 hit and reached base via E-5 Siemer 1 AB 1 hit double Darner
Big League Chew Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Throwing a no-hitter is always good and I am very impressed on how the Cov Cath pitching has dominated of late but i wouldn't get too excited on beating Holmes 8-0. I would definitely expect Cov Cath to shut them out and this just seems like a team Cov Cath should 10 run rule easily.

SirMixAlot Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 I totally agree and understand but a win is a win is a win. especially a district win, if there 4 games you want to win, its your 4 district games.
Big League Chew Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Totally agree.. winning is all that matters:ylsuper: It just makes you expect more after beating Highlands 14-0 and Boone by 10+runs

madman Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Congrats to Isler. Sounds like he was the "dominator".
Theoldguy Posted April 22, 2008 Author Posted April 22, 2008 Not hittable by Holmes or by anyone? (Not sarcastic - serious question). Yesterday? Just maybe, it was all working for him! Lets see in his last three outing he has beaten Ryle, Boone and now Holmes and gave up all of 3 runs in those three game. I think you saw the Ryle game where Isler and Klein, pitched a 3-0 shutout, I didn't see the Boone game, but they only scored 3 in that game and then another shurout in the game against Holmes. Three runs in three games, not bad indeed. BTW I want to congratulate the Holmes Coach. All during the game he kept yelling encouragement to his players, and not once did he yell at any of his kids negatively. Each time his pitcher came off the mound to the bench at the end of the inning, he patted the kid on the back, and he constantly keep on the kids to play hard in a positive manner. Great job Coach....

Great job Coach.... I watched Holmes once this year and came away with the same impression. I think he is doing a great job with those young men and has them playing really hard.
Diamond Dandy Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 It's Holmes guys....Charlie Lovan threw a 1 hitter against them and I don't recall anyone comparing him to Nolan Ryan.
colonel-fan Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Seems the Colonels are putting a good stretch together. Hopefully it continues.

But what people did point out is that Isler is pitching phenomenally, as evidenced by people who saw him pitch this game, and the fact that he has giving up 3 runs in 3 games, including a game against God's gift to NKY baseball.
