Also, when they gave in and recalled Homer last year, he didn't produce and I'm sure they will remember that when it comes to Bruce. I still think Hatte is gone at the first decent offer.

If he had a spring comparable to what Cueto or Volquez did there's a good chance he would have opened the year in Cincinnati.

You can if you think one has more major league staying power than the other. Do you think if Cueto puts up good numbers in GABP, he's going to re-up come FA time? He's going to take the money and run. Bruce on the other hand can put up numbers and be the lineup stud once Griffey and Dunn are gone. Again, it's about current need. The Reds can be patient and keep Bruce at AAA and delay the FA clock on him because he's not needed with the big club. Cueto and Volquez are. I think the Reds learned a lesson last year by promoting Homer when he wasn't ready.

Many teams do that now-a-days. Longoria started the year in the minors, he is now up, and signed a long term deal at bargain numbers for what he will do. Dodgers are not in a big hurry to bring up Clayton Kershaw. You gotta delay the clock on these kids now-a-days with the inflation in the market. Besides, Bruce is going to be a stud, we all know that. But if he is supposed to be our savior this year, it's probably gonna be a long year.
