My take is that Stephen had the shekinah of God. This happened to Moses after he had seen (or been close to) God. It happens in the Transfiguration when Jesus meets with Elijah and Moses and they have the shekinah.

To expound on your thought...I immediately thought of the passage 1 Corinthians 3:7-18. I won't type it all, but you all can read it for yourselves. To sum it up, it contrasts the old and new covenants by using the example of Moses...his glory would fade away. But, verse 18 says, "But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord." Simply put, we're going in the opposite direction...at some point we'll be glorified and look like Christ and we're being transformed to His image as time passes.

 

 

To try to respond to a few of Mr. Funs posts...

 

My feeling has always been that angels know more about God than we do, because they have been or are in his presence...they have seen and experienced things that we have not. However, perhaps I should re-think that feeling. We have the Holy Spirit dwelling in us...I'm not sure that's the case with angels. So, rather than knowing more, could it be that they know something different? Perhaps we know things that angels don't know since they "desire to look into".

 

As for angels and free will, I can't reach any other conclusion except to believe they have free will. If they didn't, how could Satan have rebelled, and lead others into rebellion with him? They had to choose to do that and the others made a choice to stay.

Galatians 1:8 "But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned".

 

Self explanitory (sp) Angels can preach the gospel, but they can also lead you astray (with the idea of free will for an angel).

 

I think Satan's posse does just this. They teach a form of the gospel that is intended to lead people astray.

 

Things you learn have to be grounded completely and fully in Scripture and that responsibility falls on us to read and study Scripture so that we can recognize things that don't sound Scripturally.

 

Important point here, though, is that if something tickles our ears, doesn't mean it is from Scripture. You cannot read/study Scripture while looking for things that you want it to say but rather accept what it does say.

Psalm 34:7

 

"The Angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him and he delivers them"

 

Context: Psalms is usually considered a praises/prayers to the Lord. This looks like a praise reading the whole psalm. Now the question is what is the "Angel of the Lord"?

 

This is not the first time the Bible makes mention of this... I don't believe that this is like the angels we are studying, but instead this trying to describe God with a limited vocabulary to do so. However, we might, and I stress might conclude that it is a spirit, which inclines that angels are spirits, what do you think

Psalm 91:11

"For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways"

 

OK guys, gut feeling this will be a hard one... I think to get the context it needs to be read fully

19 years old and I had to work late and miss my softball game. Boss later told me "its Ok to leave and make your game." I didn't bring my stuff because he had told me we were gonna to work OT.

 

I had time to go home and get my stuff and change but had to hurry.

 

Going down the two lane road which had a 25 MPH limit. I was going around 50 or so I wasn't looking at the dial. A older man was crossing the road and looking down at a newspaper I guess he had bought at the store.

 

He looked and saw me coming and he froze in the middle of the road. I didn't know which way he was gonna go. No way was I gonna hit him. I served to the left and at the speed I was going the momentum made my body go all the way over to the passenger side and I hit my head on that window.

 

1970 Pymouth Duster which had a bench seat. My foot was nowhere near the brake, infact it was near the ceiling. The car was headed straight for a telephone pole with me still on the other side.

 

I reached for my steering wheel and grabbed it. When I grabbed it I missed the pole because the car swerve away from it and the momentum brought me back to the driver's side where I hit my head on that window and now I was going to another pole on the other side of the road. I dodged that pole and slammed on the brakes. I turned and looked at the man who still hadn't moved.

 

At one time if you stopped the action I was on the other side in the passenger seat with nothing to stop me but the pole. When I grabbed the wheel I turned it just enough for it not to flip the car.

 

19 and very stupid. God spared me and my Angels lead me the right way. I cried for 30 minutes and missed the game. I thanked God for giving me an another chance and sparing the Old man.
