April 15, 200818 yr Ok, so I can not help myself let us keep in the New Testiment and look at 1 Cor chapter 6 verse 3: "Do you not know that we will judge angels". Chapter 6 verses 1-11 is talking about lawsuits, it is my opinion that Paul is trying to get to the point, that there should be peace between brother to brother, and was using an hypothetical question to get his point across. What do you think? Great question and I have no clue.
April 15, 200818 yr Ok, then here we go! I really want to start in Heb, I have no idea why, just felt lead to do so. First, the book of Hebrews: it is a book that basically affarms (sp) Jesus as being over all things. The first verse we come to is in verse 4 "So he became as much superior to the angels as the name as the name he has inherited is superior" This says to me, basically the name of Jesus is greater than all of the angels. So we do know there are Angels and Jesus is above them all. Then in verse 6 it talks about Jesus being born and that God's angels worship him. That is pretty self explaintory. \ Here is a verse though, I need help interpreting verse 7"In speaking of Angels he says "he makes his angels winds, his servants flames of fire", it references Ps 104:4? I have no clue what this mean? Verse 14 Here we come to a job description "are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation" What do you think this means? Hebrews 13:2 "Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it" Well if we go back to verse one, the writer is speaking of loving a brother, I think the writer is just given illustration, when we help others(strangers), we really could be helping ourselves. Just an idea what do you believe? I have gave you enough bread to digest, I look forward to seeing the responses! I think this is clear that when humans die, we don't become angels despite what Hollyweird wants people to think. I do think we run into angels sent here to do God's work.
April 15, 200818 yr Last book for this evening, which means we have covered 3!!! 2 Corinthians 11:14 "And no wonder, for Satan himslef masquerades as an Angel of Light" Paul in chapter 11 is giving warning of false prophets, and here it seems to suggest that Satan will look as he his doing good, but reality is a whole other thing. What do you think? What do we get to know out of angel here, to me it is simple angel's do good! Absolutely. I have long held the position that Satan has taken root in some Christian churches and having them do things to make the true Christians work seem to be hypocritical or less effective. I disagree. Angel's do not do good. They do good in God's/Jesus' name. If the good is not grounded in Christ and with the purpose to further the love of God for each of us, than I don't believe it is works of angels. I think Satan could be doing good and trying to convince people it is "enough" to simply do good. They buy into his lies and are not doing good for the sake of people to know about the sacrifice that Christ made for each of us and the love that God has for each of us.
April 15, 200818 yr Alot of myth that deals with Satan comes from "Paradise Lost", just wanted to point that out. Also, tonight, I will take a stronger look at 1, 2 Peter and Gal. Until then, I wish everyone a wonderful day
April 15, 200818 yr Y'all made some nice points, I can't reply to Hatz's questions and I agree with some of the statements. I'm reading some material on this subject, but wanted some imput. Why someone dies and another lives is something I've wondered about... But as a five year old in northern Alabama at a lake with lots of family members I walked out too far and stepped into a hole and lost my balance. I was under and remember the water as I was looking up and wanting to breathe. My 12 year old Aunt saw that I was gone and swam to me and saved me. My dad was watching water skiers, and was still watching them as I came to. The Aunt...what if she had stayed home that day? What if her head was turned away? What if ? I believe something brought her with us, and had her ready when I needed her. Look in the paper and you will see many people younger than you that passes away due to illnesss/accident. I don't know the answer, but I know for sure something was watching over me, and my other near death is worse than this one I shared. Momma's accident...You cannot tell me it wasn't an Angel thing...But thats why I brought it up. Please hear me Larry that I don't want to take away from your experiences and your belief of God's activity in the form of angels in those life changing moments. :thumb: My struggle comes with the fact that I've been in too many funerals and too many tragedies that the "what if" questions are the opposite in results. What if the child had been sitting in the other seat when the van rolled over? Why did this person contract this incurable disease and die and yet others walk freely profiting from evil? Why did this person take this road to work that day when they normally would not be on that highway and the 2 ton truck would not have struck him? I can't explain it any better than to say my faith doesn't work in those answers but I look for the grace of God in a fallen world to help sustain me in the dark until dawn breaks and life resumes. :thumb:
April 15, 200818 yr I would chime in, but I'm afraid to...my posts vanish and change randomly with no explanation... ...of course, I'm sure when I check this post in an hour or so, it will say something different than what I originally posted.
April 15, 200818 yr The book "Angels" by Billy Graham is a great resource. It answers all your questions about this subject. It is a great read.....:thumb:
April 15, 200818 yr Author Hatz, I also have asked those questions, maybe not heard from folks asking them as you have. All I can say this is how I believe and like Jesus was taken care of after the satan tempation, I also have been taken care of. Now not in the same sense as Jesus, but if your are not in the water with me,(not Hatz) how can anyone say what they were feeling after they came out. I can only speak for my self, not even for a family memeber. They have their own feelings toward Angels. I choose not to give the biggest reason why I believe in protecting Angels...there are two more reasons..but rememeber I was there. Now if someone wants to hear these reasons...ask. Mr. you did a great job with your research.
April 15, 200818 yr What about the Angel of the Lord? This seems to be God in human form...or a pre-incarnate Christ. At least, that's the way I understand it. Sometimes the Bible says "an angel of the Lord"...but when it says "the angel of the Lord", it seems to be God Himself. Are seraphim considered angels? To my knowledge, the word seraphim is only mentioned twice in the Bible (Isaiah 6:2, 6)...this passage doesn't say they are angels. Here's what it does say: -They stand above God's throne -Six wings (two covers their face, two their feet and two to fly with) Are these creatures angels or are seraphim a different class of heavenly beings?
April 15, 200818 yr The beings described in Revelation 4:6-8 are very similar in description to the cherubs described in Ezekiel chapter 10. It doesn't call them cherubs in Revelation, but I don't think it's a stretch to make that assumption when comparing the two passages. The seraphim are described as standing above God's throne, while the cherubim are described surrounding God and His throne...is there anything to that? Is it worth noting? Do they have differing responsibilities? Are they angels, classes of angels, or something different? If they are classes of angels, do all angels fall under one of these two classifications or are there more? Are archangels something different? There are just so many questions about angels that we don't have the answers to.
April 15, 200818 yr Author Cherubims are found early in the Bible...Exodus 25:18 protecters over the Ark and their image is found there. They are also portrayed as the chubby Angels found on Christmas Cards. In the Bible they are more frightening Ezekiel 10:12 But first they were used by God to keep Adam/Eve from returning back to Eden. Solomon also used them in the Temple.
April 15, 200818 yr 1 Peter 1:12 "It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things." In context Peter is talking about salvation. I believe that he is saying that Angels like to study about God. Which brings up an interesting point maybe Angels know just as much about God as we do on Earth.... What do you think?
April 15, 200818 yr 2 Peter 2:4 "For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for the judgement" WOW!!! WOW!!! Angels seem to have free will in this verse. For if they just obeyed God, they would not have sinned. In context though, Peter is giving warning of what happens when people stray. So now we know for a fact Angels have free will, so with that being said, maybe they can choose who to help in times of need... interesting thoughts, what say you...
April 16, 200818 yr Galatians 1:8 "But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned". Self explanitory (sp) Angels can preach the gospel, but they can also lead you astray (with the idea of free will for an angel).
April 16, 200818 yr Acts 6:15 "All who were sitting in the Sanhedrin looked intently at Stephen, and they saw that his face was like the face of an Angel" In context, Stephen is about to be the first christian Maryter So I imagine a radiant face here, kinda like those pictures where you see Jesus's face shine compared to the others. So I gather out of this Angels are bright... what say you
