N.F.L. has decided that stiff arms are going too far

A stiff arm to the face should be a 15 yd penalty. Nothing about that says the NFL is getting soft or should start using flags. Have you ever had someone stiff arm you in the face it is very annoying and should have been cracked down on years ago.

It should be cracked down on because it's annoying?

I guess defensive linemen shouldn't be able to use the swim move now, because it's annoying to offensive linemen?

 I stiff armed a few when I played high school and I aimed for the face. It was the best place to get them off balance. I have no problem with it. It is not dangerous to either player...

If it is not broke don't fix it... :irked:

NFL is the number 1 sport in America and it is not even close. Why screw with it? I have been stiff armed and it was not pleasent, but I have also been ran over, de-cleated on a sweep, but that is apart of the game.

When you penalize everyone else on the field for the same thing, why give an advantage to the ball carrier by allowing them to stick their hand in a guys face mask and get an advantage.Stiff arm them in the chest or shoulder pads and doesn't amount to near the same advantage.

You don't stiff arm by sticking your "hands in a guys face mask." When I was taught to stiff arm, we aimed for our palm to hit the top of the helmet, just above the facemask. A stiff arm to the chest defeats the purpose of stiff arming.

If you watch much football, you will see that the running back will usually if he can push the defensive man in the face.It happens about every game and is always allowed.I guess their aim is usually bad then.

I think the runner should be allowed to stiff arm to the face as long as there is no grabbing of the facemask. That should be a penalty IMO.

Let me clarify, anything to the facemask should be illegal.

If an defensive player cannot drive a player by using the facemask, offensive players should not be allowed to do the same.

I can agree with this. Unless I'm understanding the new rule wrong, a stiffarm can only be to the body now, is that correct? If so I think they've made a mistake. An effective stiffarm can be delivered to the helmet without touching the facemask, making it illegal will severely detract from the game.

To the top of the helmet or anywhere else is just fine, But I agree it should have been done sooner. When you can grab the face mask of a player and bend his head back to where he is looking stright up and he has to worry about his neck getting broken then its wrong. Thats why face-mask flags are thrown against the defense for grabing it. Why is it not a flag if the ball carrier does it? Great change and should have been done years ago. IMO.

The swim move is fine, but the stiff arm to the face is too much we might as well give them a stun gun to keep the defensive player away from them.
