April 8, 200818 yr Anybody else find it odd that Larry Brown says he misses coaching and is at the Final Four in the same week? That is one coach I would not want to see at UK... :irked:
April 8, 200818 yr Does he have ties to Oklahoma State? If not, I'd stay in Lawrence. That's where he played and his wife is from there also.
April 8, 200818 yr T. Boone Pickens owns OSU athletics. The AD there is the old golf coach, had no other qualifications to be AD, and friend of Pickens, and now a puppet. Wonder how he got that job????? I heard that OSU has had talks with Tubby Smith's reps twice today. There are ties between Pickens and Smith from his days at Tulsa.
April 8, 200818 yr Tubby does indeed have the highest paid salary: Source: http://www.askmen.com/sports/fitness_top_ten_100/139c_fitness_list.html Total pay: $2,073,307 Even though Kentucky fans were often calling for Smith’s head, he compiled an impressive record there: a national championship, five SEC championships, an average of nearly 27 wins per season, and six Sweet 16 finishes. Smith reached 100 wins at Kentucky faster than any other head coach, except for the legendary Adolph Rupp. Before moving to the University of Minnesota in 2007, Tubby Smith was getting $2,073,307 per season in addition to a pair of automobiles and a one-time bonus of $4 million, according to USA Today. CNN and S.I. reports that Donavan is the highest paid coach in the NCAA with $3.5 million/yr.
April 8, 200818 yr Rumor ( from what you read on message boards ) is that Self will stay at Kansas and BCG to Oklahoma State. This is whats being thrown around at the Final Four. What message boards? I don't think this will happen, especially after seeing BCG's speech at Bill Keightley's memorial the other night. I think he likes it here. He has the best of everything in facilities and such to offer recruits. (Although he doesn't have the best of contract thus far:D). It sounds as though OSU is throwing a ton of money around so it really wouldn't surprize me too much to see anyone go, including BCG. I know that I really like BCG and I will root and cheer for him and UK as long as he's here but I'll always long for the return of Pitino, I just can't help it. I don't think it will ever happen but I can dream. Stranger things have happened! If you haven't gotten a chance to see his speech from the other night, I suggest you take a minute and watch it. It's just awesome!! One of the best speeches that I have ever seen about anything. If BCG does leave, I'd say Travis Ford would wish he'd waited to take the LSU job. I'd bet the Phelphry would come home to the Bluegrass and I'd roll out the carpet for him, Ford, or Pitino. I hope BCG stays though, I love BCG as a coach and a recruiter and I think he will return us to glory in the next 3-4 yrs. I honestly believe that.
April 8, 200818 yr Apparently Self isn't as interested in the OK. St. as they are him. From ESPN.com: He said he hadn't heard from the Cowboys but would talk to them if they call. "I would answer the phone," Self said. "Good gosh, I know all those people. I'm not going to lie and say I'm not going to answer the phone. But I certainly wouldn't answer the phone unless everybody at Kansas knew exactly what was going on." Self said he's "positively not interested" in the Oklahoma State job but added that he wants to sit down with Kansas administrators. "I'm sure we'll meet and iron some things out," he said. Asked what he considers important when he evaluates a job, Self replied, "I've got the best job. I have tradition and history and I love the people I work with. It's a great place to recruit to and my family's happy. I've got the best job, so I'm not evaluating anything else. I'm really not." Rest of story: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=3336125
