Are there any KC observers who can report on Spring practice? I'm pretty sure a lot of their key players are two and three sport athletes (which I'm in favor of) and are playing with the baseball team now. Central will be a senior dominated team this year but with some underclassment at a few of the key positions. If they can work out a few of the offensive bugs from last season and stay healthy, this could be the best KC team in quite a few years. What may be of almost equal importance could be coaching changes at other teams within the district. KC finally got the Rockcastle monkey off their backs last season. Could Coach Larkey's departure to Harlan County signal a changing of the guard in the district?
Bronco99 Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 According to KC 2007 roster they lost about 12 seniors and return around 14 Juniors. How many of those Juniors started last year and how many outgoing Seniors will be hard to replace?

After watching their current group of seniors play a couple of freshmen games four years ago, I had made a mental note that this would be a big year for the Panthers. They will be fine at skill positions, especially at running back, receivers, defensive backs and linebackers. Qb Corey Smith is recovering from season ending injuries from last season and could be limited. The line, both offensive and defensive, suffered graduation losses and is a mystery to me although the coaches may be happy, I just don't know. There are rumors of tranfers, both in and out, but I don't know of any facts. I look for a good year with a top two district finish. Has anyone seen them at any 7 on 7s this year?

Both needed some more work.

I said many times over the past two seasons how pleased I am to see McCreary improving and showing a genuine interest in their program. However, I don't see a 32-6 loss to Knox Central as being the encouraging sign that you seem to.

However, I was at the game and I know it was 12-6 with 10 min. left in the game and McCreary had the ball. At this point McCreary had a melt down for 3 min or so and KC scored 3 times during MC's melt down. The first 2 scores by KC were both through the air because they were not moving the ball on the ground and they were both in the first quarter if memory serves me correctly. This was a well played and very close game with a 3 min period that was like the twighlight zone for MC. So yes, I can see where the McCreary program can use this game to help motivate themselves for the 2008 season. Sometimes the score of a game does not tell the tale!

I don't want to criticize MCs team, but that 3 minute meltdown was brought on by a lack of discipline and control and Knox Central was a good enough team to take full advantage of it. Look, Knox Central fans have spent many years where you are now and we know all about meltdowns and letting games get away. It's a part of what makes a struggling program struggle. We were everyone's favorite homecoming opponent for years and I can tell you, it feels much better to be on the W side of a 32-6 score than finding the bright spots of the L side.

I totally agree, lack of discipline costed MC 2 or 3 games last year and KC was an outstanding team and I look for them to be again in 2008. All I was saying is that MC's performance was something they can use to grow on and use to get better. I know there is no automatic jumps to the top only hard work and learning from your mistakes. Maybe if MC only has a 1 min. meltdown this season the score might be a little closer and that is what I am saying. I definately wasn't taking away from KC because I think coach Mills has done an excellent job and they will be a very good team for years to come.
DADDY CAT Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 KC has a very tough schedule. The first three games are against very good oposition in Clay, Corbin and Bell. I can see KC starting 2-1. ( Bell will be a little much for a lot of teams this year.) I also really don't see Rock fading away just because Larkey left. It may take some adjustment, but I don't look for the Rockets to just become irrelevant. This could be one of the best games of the year on KC's schedule. If KC can go 6-4 or better against this schedule, they will show that they have taken another step up with their program. The addition of Merida to the team will be a big plus. He will provide KC with a solid 1-2 attack along with Dexter. They have some kids that can catch the ball pretty good, too.
