Why doesn't the KHSAA Just give us 3 weeks in May?

Explain to me when Basketball gets time? And to say baseball doesn't get time is out of touch with reality, period. Baseball never stops, in many cases, including the mostly ignored dead period.

Basketball is allowed to have practice in June and July, not to mention the large amount of camps that they go to where they compete as a team.

Please don't insult me, as I'm not the one out of touch with reality. High School sports, is my contention and not the summer/fall leagues. Players don't have to stop, during the dead period but the organization of school related programs, coaches and facilities does.

Strike, maybe that would be something that you could change. Organized, school affiliated baseball can not start before February 15. Maybe you should contact the KHSAA and see if they could allow a winter baseball practice session. Of course this would have to be indoors. I don't know what each school has, facility wise, but all the schools in my area have an indoor batting cage. Perhaps, most schools could have two hours of hitting practice for a two or three week period for the players not playing basketball.

That is the only solution that I can think of, because of spring baseball, summer baseball, and fall baseball, the winter would be the only option.

Plus, you would be the guy to take this on. Remember, we have not had spring football for that long, and someone had to propose it.

Had this discussion with Julian and several others. Making a little progress and would like to see it implemented.

Thank you....:thumb:

94, you are correct about some teams keeping there HS team together and playing during the summer. Without cooperation, many of the players often choose which to participate in. With scheduling allowances, some can attend both but demanding physically.

My main point, is High School and during the school year, for sports. Football gets spring and camps. Basketball gets summer and camps but Baseball, does not. We have no control over AAU Basketball, traveling Baseball during out of school time. The KHSAA has mandated guidelines, to oversee many of these seasons. The dead period, often precludes many Baseball programs, unless coached by non-HS personnel.

Needs to be some give and take, on all parties but when you allow other HS sports, to venture into their seasons, is my concern. Allow one, then allow them all.

How does Tennessee do their spring ball. I know they even get to scrimmage a couple of times...how does all that balance with all three sports down there?

Spring football can already be an hindrance to other spring sports.

Isn't this a bit of a reversal?

That's what they do in Florida and believe me... I can't wait to get down there! :ylsuper:

Every spring sport is scheduled so that the state championships are in late April and therefore football gets the entire roster back for spring football starting May 1. Every team has the choice to play an actual spring game vs. another opponent to wrap up spring and NO, there is no dead period in the summer. :thumb: It's a football oriented system and that's what makes it so advantageous for anyone looking to seriously build a program.

Give everyone three weeks after the sweet 16 to get 10 practices in. How hard could that be.

ALL sports are allowed to do whatever they want in the summer, other than football (equipment restrictions), and the dead period. So they are all the same. Only football has teh specific exception. That was my point.
