10th Region POY

Who does everyone feel should get it this year? I think De'Sarae Chambers should get it because she has been able to carry her team on her back in some situations when they needed her to, and she has accomplished some pretty great things thus far this season.

What does everyone else think?

No doubt Chambers is the most outstanding player in the 10th region this year.

For the sake of arguement, why would anyone not pick Maggie Prewitt?

She's a very nice player as well.

She is 2nd for sure, but Chambers is simply better than Maggie. Better shooter, better defender, and more valuable to her team than Maggie. If Chambers was not on Mason, they would be lucky to be a .500 team. Montgomery Co. would still be a very solid team without M. Prewitt.

That's my two cents on the topic.

I agree for the most part.

Wow! I must agree that Chambers is the better gifted athlete and may have the greater potential for success at the major college level but to say she is the better shooter, defender and means less to her team than Chambers does hers is a pretty bold statement.

I'd say the last two years Prewitt has probably avg. close to 3 steals per game which is huge. Prewitt plays on the deeper of the two teams and plays on an overall more unselfish team but you can't diminish what she has meant to their success. I would've probably voted two years ago that Chambers hands down was the better player but because of the number of times in big games Prewitt has shown her overall worth and affect on the team it would be hard to put her below Chambers. If the voting is fair you would have to give a Co-POY and leave it at that. Both players are phenoms and affect the games in different ways. IMO, Chambers didn't touch the ball enough today, especially in the first half, Prewitt did in her game and affected the game even when she wasn't scoring!

Disagree...

Explain why Coach.

I have to agree with Coach Kelsch. I think it's the popular choice to say that Chambers is hands down the pick, but you have to look at the full picture. It's just like the NFL combines, you can't measure the player, by vertical, speed and quickness, you have to take it all into consideration. Maybe it's the way the player is utilized that makes the difference in the case of these two players. Look at what a fabulous player Courtney Danis was for Montgomery Co and she didn't play her natural position and now she is playing her natural position in College and is even better than she was in high school. For the sake of the team both Danis and Chambers played down inside but both are obviously shooting guards or small forwards at the next level.

Enough of my soap box but I just feel like Prewitt gets short changed in these conversations because of her supporting cast or because she doesn't look like your typical athlete. Lord knows I would never diminish Chambers career accomplishments.

It's so close to call between Prewitt and Chambers... let's break down the final region regular season statistics...

Chambers

1st in scoring (21.7 ppg)

5th in rebounding (8 rpg)

13th in assist (2.3 apg)

7th in steals (2.5 spg)

2nd in 2 Pt. Shooting (56.5 percent)

1st in 3 pt. shooting (56.3 percent)

1st in free throw shooting (81.4 percent)

Prewitt

7th in scoring (14.4 ppg)

1st in assist (5.3 apg)- 1st by a wide margin

1st in steals (3.6 spg)

5th in 2 pt. shooting (48.3 percent)

4th in free throw shooting (75.7 percent)

Tight.... Montgomery has the better overall record, but I have to go with Chambers in a close close battle...

You're too caught up in stats, Play by Play. Look at the schedules that the two teams played during the season and then make that assesment. You have to compare apples to apples. Just looking at stats alone won't make for a good comparison.

Montgomery has had the tougher schedule, but Chambers has been huge for her team when they needed her. Both are worthy.

I agree, Chambers has been huge for her team late in ballgames, just as she was today, but Prewitt has done the same for her team as well going all the way back to her Freshman year. In fact she hit the game winner in the Regional final last year in the closing seconds. Both are great players, just asking why many pick Chambers as the overwhelming choice. You couldn't be mad at either selection. I'd have the same thoughts if people were saying hands down that Prewitt was the favorite, but you don't seem to get that on any of the postings. I wouldn't be surprised if the 10th Region didn't have 2 players on this years KY/IN All-stars team.

For what its worth, D. Chambers will be recognized as the KABC Player of the Year in 10th Region. Congrats to D:thumb: Make this individual accomplishment 2nd on your list of awards. Make a 10th Regional Title #1!
