13th Region Draw

Featured Replies

Les, I am really surprised that you are picking Corbin to make it to the finals. Do you think Corbin has developed into the team they were expected to be or has the other teams just improved that much as well? I really think Corbin has not actualized their potential. It could be a number of factors. The team chemistry still seems to be lacking. Clay County is a team on a mission. I am not sure how Cody Roberts played against Corbin in Manchester, but Corbin will have their hands full with Hobbs, Wilson, and Roberts. I really hope Corbin will win against Clay. Though, I don't know if Corbin has ever won the 13th after losing the district. Also, just curious to your reasoning for picking Jackson over South.

My reason for picking Jackson over South .... Just a hunch, really.

As for picking Corbin ... The Redhounds have the most talented team and deepest roster in the region.

They'll realize this is do or die time and they'll come through.

Look for a BIG tournament by Josh Crawford.

Andrew for a Corbin fan you post a lot of negative comments. Maybe you are Bobby Keith in disguise? :D

Corbin has played as well as anyone in the 13th region this year. They are 23-7 any have only lost to two teams in the state of Kentucky.

Josh Crawford has battled extremely hard to return from his injury and has played extremely well of late. I take him over many other top ranked players in the region.

Why do you continue to bring up potential and team chemistry? I would rather play the type of schedule that Corbin plays and take a few loses that prepare you for the post season.

Les, I hope you're right. I agree with Corbin having the most talent and being the deepest in the region. I guess I would have more confidence if the margain of victories were larger over teams like Jackson County, Pineville, and Knox Central. I realize all three are good teams, I just thought Corbin has played to their opponent's potential and not their's. Also, the two loses to South Laurel gave me reasons for concern. I guess all these questions will start to be answered on Wednesday. Though, it is fun to speculate.

Corbin's schedule was definitely strong and hopefully prepared them for the post season. I just did not see the gradual improvement for Corbin throughout the season. Maybe I just did not see it. No doubt, Corbin had a great 9/10 game stretch and won some close games. Also, I would love to see the Hounds cut the nets down at Knox Central. Even though, I am a Corbin fan -- I like to consider myself a fan that is grounded in reality. BTW, no, I am not Bobby Keith. I am sure he was watching the Lady Tigers tonight dismantle Whitley County. :-)

I would take Miller from KC over Crawford at this point and time.

Im pretty sure that Cody Roberts did not even see playing time during the Corbin game, he is definetly a new weapon for the Tigers. Before the last game of the year most Clay Co fans did not even know he was, but now we know his name very well.

If you're going to be 13th Region Champions, then you are going to have to beat the two-time defending South Laurel Cardinals. The Cardinals are looking to go to Rupp Arena for the fourth consecutive year. Impressive, especially, considering this was to be a rebuilding year for South Laurel. Instead of rebuilding, SLHS just reloaded. I did not think Wright's team was a contender for the 13th Region title until they dismantled Corbin by 26 on the Redhound's home court. Jackson County will not be a cake-walk for the Cardinals; however, I think South will move on in a nail biter.

The big question for this tournament is what Corbin team will come to play at Knox Central. Corbin has had moments of excellence this seasons along with spells of mediocrity. It seems the team does not have the chemistry it had before J. Crawford was put back in the line up. I am NOT writing Corbin off--this team is more than capable of winning the 13th Region Tournament; nevertheless, I believe it depends on how well they play as a team and execute a gameplan. Corbin will have to be ready to handle Hobbs who will penetrate the paint all night if Corbin lets him. Also, they'll have to watch Roberts, who had an almost perfect game against Jackson Co.

As for predictions -- I do not have any. I believe South Laurel and Knox Central have the best chances of reaching the championship game. I repeat what I have heard from most of the knowledgable minds of 13th Region basketball--this is one of the most balanced regional tournaments of recent memory. I do not think Lynn Camp or Bell County will post three consecutive wins. Clay Co, Corbin, Knox Central, Cumberland, South Laurel, and Jackson Co are all capable of winning three.

On a final note, Corbin won the region in 2005, 2000, 1991 ... did they win in 1997 as well? Yes, that is a question.

I agree with him. ^

Sorry, I do not see any favorites in the 13th Region. I agree either South Laurel or Knox Central could possibly win this thing. I can easily see Corbin, Clay County, Jackson Co, or Cumberland winning as well. This region is so evenly matched.

I don't think Corbin ever developed into the team many thought they would become. Anyone with thoughts on why?

I agree that Corbin has not reached the level that I anticipated. I have not been overly impressed by many of their efforts. Their foul-shooting is abysmal and may very well be their demise. I hope they play at their fullest potential in the tourney. This is the time to do it. Man up, guys.

I think that Corbin has not reached their potential, simply because they have so much individual talant. They have relied on that talant to win games and have not worked on the finer points such as free throw shooting. When it gets down to the nitty gritty they have more trouble because of things like that tend to mount up on you. Defensivley they tend to be lazy at times letting the ball handler get by them and then trying to back tap they ball away. It works against the lesser teams but better teams are stronger with the ball and it just leads to easy baskets at bad times.

More times than not talant will carry you but there have been times like the district championship when they needed to make plays and just did not.

Does that mean they can't or won't win the region? Not at all but it does mean they may have a tougher time than a team with less talant who has worked harder to get better.

I can't stand that stupid back tapping garb. I'm glad you pointed it out. I like in your face make ya get ticked off hard nosed defense. It's more effective too.
