Corbin won the region in Jones' sophomore year('97). His freshman year ended with the controversial loss at Clay Co. in the region.

Did Clay County host the region in 1996, too?

I was there in 1998 when Cory Sears and Josh Brock played. So, 1996 ended in controversy with Clay in 1996 at Clay?

The region was at Corbin in 1996. Corbin was upset by Clay in the first round. Harlan coasted to the tournament title after that.

HDE,

Did the 1996 game end in controversy, too?

I know Clay beat Corbin in the 2006 region tourney at Clay, too.

I didn't see that game, but Corbin probably wouldn't have much to complain about. Clay was down that year, and Corbin was a heavy favorite playing at home.

Recent history involving Corbin/Clay Co. These are years that each team's seniors would have been in their respective programs. Corbin takes the regular season meeting over Clay @ Clay in an overtime game.

2007 - Corbin beats Clay @ Corbin during the Regular Season:

Corbin loses to South Laurel (finals), Clay Co. to Cumberland (semis)

2006 - Corbin loses to Clay Co. @ Clay during the Regular season.

Regional: Corbin loses to Clay Co. (first round); Clay Co. to Barbourville (semis)

2005 - Corbin loses to Clay Co. @ Corbin during the regular season.

Region: Corbin beats Clay Co. (semis), loses to UHA in Rupp (quarters).

Video evidence? Saw the game and the video of the game and nowhere on the video does it show Brumback touch Spurlock....If Spurlock would have been in line shaking hands after the game instead of trying to celebrate with his fans this would never have happened. He was over in front of Clay/Jackson fans pumping his fist and waving his arms like they had won the region....Pretty sure if Brumback would have forearmed Spurlock then there would have been some evidence of bruising/bleeding or possibly both....It's a shame that a high school coach would tell fans and anyone else that will listen a blatant lie about a player to cover their own actions. I feel that it's a shame that Clay's administration/coaches wouldn't let them shake hands during the district. It sets a bad president for high school sports. Clay county has a great tradition and should be proud of it. Do you think Bobby Keith,Donnie Gray, or Coach Burchell would have been involved in all this mess? I highly doubt it! Seems like things keep happening to Clay County and they are alwasy quick to blame others. Jackson has not had another issue with a player or coach all season. Can Clay County say the same?

Ever since the new Coach has been at Clay, they have only had problems, maybe someone will get the picture eventually. And I guess he got what he deserved in a great match up first round with Corbin! Good luck, hope all the talk about the 14th region officials helps your hopes Coach, I'm sure there will be a couple guys that just can't wait to get to Knox county for you!

Agreed :thumb::thumb:

I will be wearing red and cheering for the Redhounds on Wednesday. Well, not literally cheering on the sidelines but you get the point. I have a lot of respect for Clay County's basketball tradition and how they've respected 13th Region basketball. I do believe there are many unanswered questions surrounding the Clay County basketball program presently; however, this should not take away from the kids who play their heart out from Clay. Many people wrote this team off early on in the season saying they were not talented and did not have any size. I think they've answered their critics.

South Laurel penetrated the paint and either scored against Corbin or got to the foul line. Clay County, with Hobbs, will do much of the same thing. Also, Clay has some players that can hit the three ball. Corbin will have their hands full with Hobbs penetration and guarding the three. I am sure Coach P is preparing his team for this -- or I hope so.

I did not attend the game in Manchester, did Corbin play man or zone primarily?

Okay, so maybe some of you can help me... I don't know who won the region the following years: 1992, 1993, 1994, & 1995. I am sure Harlan one a few of them.

Clay Co-1989, 1990; Corbin-1991; Harlan-1996; Corbin-1997; Clay Co-1998, 1999; Corbin-2000; Clay Co-2001; Rockcastle Co-2002; Cumberland-2003; Rockcastle Co-2004; Corbin-2005; South Laurel-2006, 2007.

Oh, I do not think Corbin has won the region after losing the district.

Harlan 1993

Clay 1994

Harlan 1995

Concerning the incident with Brumback and Spurlock, I not only heard this from Spurlock but also players. That is way the fight broke out, believe what you want too but not only Spurlock said it happend but Clay plays said it as well.

Also Yes Spurlock can be cocky and it does rubb some people the wrong way, but I personally love the way he coaches, he is very proud to coach at Clay Co and wants to win just as much as the players.... And Im hoping our Administration will keep him around for a while!

HDE, I appreciate the post. I could not remember who won those years for the life of me. For some reason, I am thinking maybe Bell Co won in 1992. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
