I think this would be a good idea. There would be a lot of details to workout, but it would be interesting!

If fans had the chance to go to a venue and see the top players in the state who don't play for a region champ, they would show up. It's like the field of dreams..."if you build it, they will come"

 

It would take some time to build up and work out kinks but over time and with the right sponsorship this would be a big event leading up to the sweet 16.

I don't think schools would let coaches across the state to miss two weeks of school to miss for the Sweet 16 and the Not So Sweet 16.

How would coaches be missing school if the bulk of the games are played on Sat and Sun? The Mon and Tues games would be at night.

 

Also I never said it'd make it. I was just throwing the idea out of having something extra before the sweet 16 to lead up to it.

If you would want coaches not involved to attend like they do the sweet 16 they would have to miss school. Almost all coaches including assistants take off Wed-Fri. from school and attend the Sweet 16 each year. I don't see many coaches attending this event. Not many attend the All A state for that reason.

It might work out better as an event for college scouts more so than other (non-involved) coaches. It would be a great opportunity for smaller in-state schools to get some looks at kids from other parts of the state they might not normally see.

Beat me to it. I was going to say the same thing. Having 24 or 32 of the top teams in the state not playing in the sweet 16 would definetly draw some college scouts. Especially if we have a day where this are 6 or 7 games in a row at the same place.

I like think it is a good idea. Why not send out invites to the schools and the first to respond get in the tournament as a possible alternative to having the regional runner up playing. Just an option.

I think the best way to do it would take the 16 region runner ups then send invites to the schools who had been in numberous top 20 polls around the state (BGP, Cantrall, Litkenhouse). After that send out at large bids to competitive teams who have won a certain amount of games to qualify.

I'm sure it could draw a few sponsors if it was thrown out there.

Terrible idea.The great thing about the sweet 16 is everybody has a chance and only

one team ends the year as a winner. THE STATE CHAMPION.

Something like this would make a better early season tourney, at the end of the season everyone is kinda tournied out. Take the previous year's sweet 16, throw in the best 8 left out.... Kinda like the preseason NIT.
