What about this format?!!

 

Take all 64 district winners and make a seeded bracket just like the NCAA!!

 

There would be regional sites throughout the state just like in college.

 

Final Four would be at Rupp Arena.

 

This will never happen but would be very interesting.

BM--I was thinking the same thing as I was reading through this? Either take the 16 runner-ups or even add the twist of a 3rd place regional game, played as a prelim to the finals; and then make a 32 team field. Play a four site, one or two round "Super Regional" at say NKU, EKU/Morehead, WKU/Murray, and Louisville (played right after the regions, and would require limited travel); and then feed the final 4/8 to a two day, weekend tourney in Lex?? Actually would be similar to the Baseball regionals = Final Four at Applebees??

Consolation games were eliminated several years ago in the NCAA and state tournaments, and the NIT isn't what it once was. It would be really tough to promote a tournament like this.

If you would want coaches not involved to attend like they do the sweet 16 they would have to miss school. Almost all coaches including assistants take off Wed-Fri. from school and attend the Sweet 16 each year. I don't see many coaches attending this event. Not many attend the All A state for that reason.

 

It is a good idea in theory but could never work.

 

I think it would with they right sponsorship and management. Love this Idea!

If it's a terrible idea thats your opinion. I never said it would crown a state champion.

 

If you read my original post, you'd see the point of the tournament would be to give fans something to go to around the state leading up to the sweet 16 and then use the revenue generated to go toward a charity or scholarship awarded at the sweet 16.

 

Last time I checked there are thousands of kids around the state who would want extra money to help them get through college. Also I don't see any team that would turn down the opportunity to play an extra game either.

The thought tickles my ears, but I don't like the fact that it would take away from baseball season as well as other spring sports for most schools. The format is fine the way it is - even though this idea sounds good.

 

I think however, before the KHSAA sanctioned an event like this, they should put more money into building up baseball around the state. Nearly every high school in the state has a basketball court and gym, a great percentage of those even have their own football fields and stadiums, but many schools are left to play the sport of baseball on a county field or local park.
