Did Kowolonek's dad play for Newport back in the 80's?

 

I really like this lineup now with Simpson back. You have 3 pistons firing with Kowolonek, McGraw and Simpson and then you have guys like EAton(junkyard dog) and Watson (sophomore) who can slide in and get buckets. Hurtt gives you a physical lockdown defender on the floor which will take the pressure off of those offensive weapons. Grote has logged some nice minutes and is a physical player who can stroke the 15 footer. Grubbs can play the block sparingly and is a big kid. Lother can spell at the point if needed a few minutes here or there.

 

I think the Birds will make some noise and I am actually glad they get 3 games in the district as it will help with blending the chemistry. Good Luck on Monday night.

Yes, he was a 3 sport athlete at Newport. I think his main sport was Football though.

 

Highlands defeated NCC at home early in the season by 10 or so and they should prevail Monday night. I dont think NCC can defend the 3 scorers in Simpson/McGraw and Kowolonek. I expect a very sticky man-man to keep NCC from firing 3's and Geisler will have to dominate the inside for them to stay in this one.

I think with Simpson back, It makes them and Holmes the favorites to win the region. CCH is good, but I think it just became a two horse race.

 

And to be honest, as much as I hate to say this, with Simpson in the lineup, I see Highlands as the favorite to win region over Holmes.

On the flip side though, he is taking shots away from Mcgraw, and I feel Mcgraw is the better player of the two, so that could be an argument against him returning. Either way though, this Highlands team is a lot better with Simpson.

Agree. Simpson sometimes forces things though. I know I'll be at the HHS NCC game tomorrow so I'll be able to get a look at them and give them a better evaluation tomorrow night.

 

IMO Holmes is really the only team who can match up with Highlands and vice versa. If they aren't on the same side in the region tournament, I look for those two to meet in the finals.

HHS did some serious damage on the offensive boards, and I'd love to know how many they scored within 5 feet of the hoop. With that being said, HHS has a nice squad, three guys who can score and a few hard working junk men.
