Ironton vs Raceland?

Featured Replies

Why would Russell drop Raceland. Man, Both schools are lining their pockets. Big gate.

I totally agree...three mile drive to play a good competitive rival & make a tremendous gate. NO reason to drop this game whatsoever.

Also nice to have the majority of your away games within a 5-10 mile range every other year (Ashland, Russell, Fairview, Greenup Co., etc...).

I don't think Raceland can compete with Ironton. I think its good to upgrade the schedule, but I think that's a little above thier heads. I don't mean to offend anyone by saying that.

Maybe not year in and year out. But next year it would be a good game.

Braveheart I would normally agree with you, but Ironton is not the Ironton of old right now. Last year was probably the worst year in Ironton history, or at least recent history. They are on the mend, and will no doubt be very strong again in time, but right now they are rebuilding. I am not saying Raceland would beat them every year, or maybe not most years, but it would be competitive for right now.

Like I said before, this is not possible right now. Ironton already has games scheduled with two Kentucky teams starting in 2009, and I doubt they could schedule a third.

Ram, you are in a much better situation to know the condition of the Ironton program than I am. I made that statement based on past tradition. I do know that Raceland is a much improved progam over the last few years, and I do know that times and things change. If you guys do get to play them, best of luck to you!!!

Thank you. But, it won't happen, at least not for several years. I think were just talking and wishing.

Any chance of a Raceland/Pikeville game in the near future?

Hmmmm........ I don't know, but I would like to see it! If memory serves, the last time they played, Raceland beat them. That has been some time ago though.

Not that I remember it very well, but it was '90 at Raceland, and I was a Junior left guard across from Deantony Honiker, all night.

I would love to see Pikeville on the schedule. Something to think about.

As much as I like Raceland I don't think this would be a good idea. Raceland would be way overmatched playing Ironton. Wait and see what they do to Russell in 2009 and that just might change the minds of some. Don't think for a minute that because of what happened to Ironton last year will last very long. The coach is back and the players will be back also. In speaking to some of the Ironton faithful Ironton will be back in two years.

I just don't understand how some could think that Raceland is going to beat Ironton when no one else in Kentucky can get it done.

Yes, Raceland would probably be overmatched. But games like that, or playing any other team of that caliber, would be very beneficial, especially when the playoffs roll around. Playing schools such as Ironton, Ashland, and Russell, helps small schools like us here at Raceland, experience better competition, and gets us ready for the most important part of the season, the playoffs. I know when I played at Raceland, I really enjoyed playing schools that are bigger and more competitive. I always liked playing them because I always thought we would win, but really I enjoyed it because it got me and my teamates ready for the competition in the playoffs, especially when we had to play teams from Northern Kentucky!!!! .... But win or lose, games like that are very beneficial for a smaller program like Raceland.

Yet I doubt those Rams will go into any game thinking they couldn't win !!

Raceland has always had great teams, we have never won a state championship, always competitive. It would be a great game

Raceland Has Ironton on the Scheduale for the 09 season, so I've been told from a very good resorce that knows what hes talking about.

Maybe your source needs to let Ironton and Raceland know that they will be playing. I don't think they are aware that they will be playing.

Are you sure your source was not refering to Russell playing Ironton in 2009?

I have the up most respect for the Raceland Program and I do believe that Raceland could compete with Ironton in certain years. I don't know what kind of talent Raceland has coming in the near future but good luck if you get the Tigers on the schedule.
