Realigned 34th District

Featured Replies

I have heard that St Henry will be moved into the 34th district and an announcement is forthcoming any day. I am sure that St Henry will be very pleased to be made a part of the 34th and can't wait to compete against Dixie, Lloyd, Ludlow and Villa. I would also have to think that this will swing the vote in favor of seeding instead of the blind draw in future tournaments. I have to think Dixie and Lloyd along with St Henry will vote to seed with Ludlow and Villa losing out wanting the blind draw. However it ends up it will definitely make a rather weak district a bit more competitive.

I've also heard that Boone is the one now trying to move into the 34th instead of St. Henry based on geography. Not too sure how they'd be closer than SH, but who knows. If this is the case..ouch

 You might be right but I had heard that Lloyd has always wanted to seed. I may have heard that wrong but even so Lloyd may definitely think about the blind draw with the addittion of St Henry to the district. As I have said before I think all the districts should seed and at the very least all the districts should do the same thing.. Just my opinion.

I'm not argueing with your opinion of seeding, I agree. :thumb:

The fact of the matter is Lloyd never voted for seeding when they moved into a five team 34th district in 2000. At the time Dixie and Scott voted to seed, Beechwood and Villa voted against, and Lloyd with the swing vote voted against seeding every year.

Since the realingment following the 2005 season, Lloyd has voted to seed the four team district as it currently exists. The addition of St. Henry, or anyone else from the 33rd, to the 34th will undoubtably change that vote.

In other words, if a 33rd team moves in, this district won't be seeding unless it's forced to.

Correct me if I am wrong but schools cannot try and move out of a district can they? People on this thread seem to think the school has the power to move itself out of a district and into another. That is just not the case. The KHSAA will have the authority to do this. Eventually, It may be St. Henry or Boone moving out but right now there is nothing to it. Hey, this just in Ryle wants to move to the 8th Region because of geography. This whole thread is just speculation and there is no substance to it at all.

Ryle would be smart to move to the 8th and it is based on Geography.

Okay, maybe a stretch. But give me a year when any two of the of the four teams in that district fielded strong squads worthy of getting to the regional. Dixie, Lloyd, Ludlow, Villa - you can come up with good teams at those schools here and there, more obviously for Dixie than the other three, but when, for example, should two of those teams gotten to the regional ahead of either CovCath, Holmes or Holy Cross, because one of them gets shut out every year.

I will give you one 2004, and maybe even 2005. I know Ludlow in 2004 had a GREAT team. Also as for the three teams you speak of in CovCath, Holmes, and Holy Cross. Ludlow was in that district in 2004 and there was controversy about how that district pairings came out, because Ludlow might have been more deserving of a higher seed than the 4 seed they got. That year HC ended up getting the 3 seed ahead of Ludlow. Even though the two teams would have played in the All A to determine who was better but HC couldn't beat St. Henry, and then Ludlow beat that St. Henry team we are talking about in the next round. So 2004 is a definite year that St. Henry probably would not have walked to the region, they probably wouldn't have even made it.

Ryle might want this move but they wouldn't have any more region titles if they were in the eight than they have right now. Just ask SK how easy it is to win in the eight.:jump:

Yes, but schools can definitly send recommendations in to the KHSAA. Not to say that they will do anything based on recommendations, but they can try.

You also have to keep in mind that the vote comes from the AD at each school, looking out for the best interest of the boys and girls. Ludlow girls may want to seed and the boys draw, and just the opposite for the Lloyd programs. Villa may also want to seed in the future with all of their talent for both programs now playing as sophmores. It's a long shot, but they may all want to seed.

Its basically a done deal. I hear that the anouncement is coming very soon. St. Henry will move to the 34th.

I got the official word from A.D. Dave Gish by e-mail this morning:

"I have been told by a member of the KHSAA Board that we have officially been moved to the 34th. in basketball."

Your 34th district is now, Villa Madonna, Dixie Heights, Ludlow, Lloyd Memorial and St. Henry.
